Wheel track, Hilux
Go easy on me I dont know a great deal about hiluxs but I have a set of hilux diffs in my sierra.
My questions are,
For solid axle models are the rear diffs narrower than the front? Just measured mine and the front is 45mm wider?
The other question is I need to find out the wheel track of a standard hilux to know if my 8" rims are within the allowable 25mm increase.
(read I want to know the widest wheel track available for a solid axle model)
I had a quick look through the bible but nothing looked to contain the info.
Thanks for any help

All solid front axle 4x4 lux's had the 1420 front and 1400 rear wheeltrack,
and figuring that you have 4 identical rims,
and you are measuring from the centre of the rim/tyre to the centre of the other rim/tyre,
having an increase of roughly 70mm at the front (1420 to 1490) means that youre rear axle would have to be from a 2wd lux which has a rear track of 1370 (1370 to 1440?)
70mm differences in wheeltrack would be huge for only an 8" rim.....
Its pushin midnight now, so I'll call you 2morrow arvo anyhow and let you know if I find anything else

I just double checked the rta,s measurments today and it is 1490 front and 1445 rear (could be 1450 cant trust the guy holding the tape )
either way buy the above figures that makes the front 70mm over track and the rear possibly 50mm over??
Yes all 4 rims are the same, when I measure from wms to wms as best I could on the rear with the wheels on I got 1410mm?

I went to see a mate today that runs hilux diffs under his seirra and he has the same wheel track of 1490 front and 1445 rear.
Ive had a search and found that 1420 front and 1400 rear seems to be the standard track but it dosnt explain why my mates and my track are 70mm over in the front and 50ish over in the rear.
Was this the wheel track for ALL solid axle models until the ifs?
Did hilux possibly have different offset wheels front and rear?
It dosnt really matter to me but the rta want to know so they can say yes or no to my offset on my rims.

I rang toyota today and unfortunately the couldnt answer my questions or tell me were I could find the answers.
We are talking the same thing arnt we, track centre of wheel to centre of wheel?
Im lost how standard the front is 20mm wider but the two that Ive measured were 50mm difference!
Thanks Nik

on a similar note, does anyone know what the wheel track for the FRONT of a 79 series is?
Im tossing up whether to use my existing front axle and 80 series bits to do a coil conversion, or whether to just bolt a 79 series axle under there...

Ok I finally got off my ar$e and measured the front diff wms to wms is 1460.
My mates that measured the same says his was from a 85 hilux and I mine came from a 4runner.
So how would they come up with 1420 front wheel track?
Does someone have a stock hilux they could measure the track on or could someone masure there front diff wms to wms to see if they are the same?
Thanks heaps I really need this info for the rta.

diffs
I just looked at my eng. report I'm running standard diffs with 8" rims the front track is 1485 and the rear track is 1470. I don't no my wms measurment. Keep in mind that there are many different offset 8" rims
Nissan is usually about 20mm deeper offset than solid axle hilix and ifs hilux is normally 20mm shallower then solid hilux. Im sure u already knew that but u may be able to mix and match different offset rims to end up with your desired track.

Thanks mate, what model lux have you got?
Your front is only 15mm wider mine is 50mm!
Do you have the same rims front and rear?
Once I figure out if the front is normally 50mm wider I can get new rims with the right offsett to make the rta happy.
But at the moment they are suggesting the front is only 20mm wider so then I would have to run different offset wheels front and rear instead of my current rims which are the same front and rear (if that makes sense)

mate your a champ thanks heaps
If you get a chance could you measure the inner lip of the rim (opposite to the tyre bead) to the mounting face of the rim then I can work out the back spaceing.
Sounds like your front is very close to mine but then why is my rear so narrow?
I know I took the front out of a 4 runner but the rear is a mystery, I thought all 4wd lux diffs were the same so I got a wrecker to deliver it to overkill for the conversion.
If someone could measure a rear wms to wms thought would be great.
My mate with the lux diffed zuk says he took his f&r out of an early 80s lux and he has the same track as mine.
Just measured my spare rear housing plus the one in the car (got from zerosin) and they both measure approx 1220mm end to end and both axle brake drum assembly measure 90mm.
I took a front wheel off and took a pic of the hub just so it can be confirmed that its standard (non ifs)
All this chasing just to make the rta happy
Thanks heaps

I spent some time today at the blue slip station going through there files trying to find what model my front diff is from but no luck.
Im sure the diff housing is the same as every other hilux out there Ive changed tie rods and it went in without any adjustments.
Is there anything from the knuckles out that could cause the different measurements?
Different thikness rotors etc?
Im going to pull it apart tomorrow to get a better idea.
I cant understand why some are 20mm wider in the front and some are 50mm?
