Hey everyone, i am in the process of buying my first set of 33s and i am just wondering which ATs are peoples favorite? i just need a little help as i don't know to much bout tires.

I reckon the best AT out there is the STT. I certainly didn't buy them for mud. Unlike some others, traction in the mud isn't something I'm particularly interested in.

ill chuck a vote to the cooper stt's as well - mine have done me 2 years of abuse as a DD and offroad and still at 75% - no complaints other than mud - they clog up bad in thick, goopy mud - but general slush mud they clear out fine. grippier on road than the cooper H/Ts i had before them too!

a friend with new MT atr on his patrol ute is very unimpressed with them as they are wearing down really quickly and for sand work he has to let them down heaps like you have to do with your muddies With bfgs i found they were by far the best tyre that suited my needs mainly sand tracks and beach but the MT tyres do have a bit thicker side wall
I run maxxis Bravos as my road / beach tyre and are fine for those purposes. Will never touch the old BFGs with the rim protector as you constantly get leaking tyres!!!! believe other manufacturers do it as well wont use them. If money was no option though I'd be keen on the new BFGs as they dont have the rim protector and have been rated high by friends! horses for courses hence I run two sets of tyres to suit my driving!

Honestly go down to a reputable Tyre shop, if in brissie go see Fourbys, and ask them. Tell them what you want out of them and the type of driving you do and the type of roads/tracks you drive on and the frequency you drive on them and they should be able to suggest a few that will suit you best.
Mainly because everyone on here is going to have different opinion on what tyres suit them best and that opinion may not suit you as they may be driving on different surfaces than you do or spend more time on a certain surface than you do

You guys must be talking about the Cooper ST. If this is correct then my vote would be the same.
Cooper ST - Great Tyre! although can get a tad slippery on road when they wear past 50% tread.
A close second would be BFGs A/T Though I've never had them they go very well on alot of mates cars.
BFG AT's - great if you like leaky beads all the time.
Depends on what type of terrain, but i dont think you could go past MT/Rs as an all round tyre, just my HO however. For onroad, sand, and good dirt roads, the Pro Comp has a 80,000km guarantee; so perhaps something to consider.

If you want to get immersed in Cooper's advertising, the S/T is a 60% mud tyre, so that would discount them too. However, if I was looking for an 80% mud tyre, I wouldn't be looking at STTs (I'd probably be looking for a lobotomy - I hate mud.) I believe the market has moved on from the days of H/T - A/T - M/T, and there is now more of a continuum from mild to wild.
To me, tyres such as the STT, MT/R & MTZ are more "aggressive all-terrain" rather than mud tyre. "Mud" is not their primary design consideration. STT = Super Traction Tire (damn yanks! ), MT/R = Maximum Traction / Reinforced and MTZ = NFI.
So, best All Terrain? I give it to the STT - but I'm biassed.

Last time I was in the tyre store the sales bloke tried long & hard to sell me another set.....He claimed that they were "the best", when I asked how he said they are our biggest seller.....Myresponse "So I guess Hyindais are the best car on the road too huh".....
Think it was more that they were what gave him the best margin.

I did a lot of research recently on AT tyres - for me it couldn't be a pain to live with on the road (as that's the car's primary use) but still had to be 'off-road' enough that I could go camping/touring anywhere still.
Settled on the Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 Rib.
Picking them up next week, so no first hand evidence yet, but most sites/forums seem to give them a pretty good wrap.

I got them on my truck for the same reasons as Andres. 285/75/16. Wearing very well, don't notice the noise on road (quiet compared to bfg muds) mostly highway and some offroad/gravel roads.
First set I got started showing cracks around the bead at 12-15,000km. MT rep checked them out and gave me a new set on the spot. Good service. New set aren't showing any signs of cracking yet.
Only ever had BFG muds to compare them to but so far very happy with my choice. My BFGs suffered from the dirt-in-the-bead leak every now and then.
