Vit xfer gears coming down in price

Calmini dropped their price. With the strong AU$ i think it worthwhile bringing in a set of gears.

Not just for vits... their 6.5:1 Sierra crawler price has crashed too $795

Yeah I should have an order in within a couple of days.
For $1100 Australian I can't really see a sensible cheaper way.

has anyone used this gear before? how does it compare to rockhopper? how does the 4.16 compare to the 5.14 other than one's lower? i've kinda picked up the feeling that R3s were stronger than R1s, was wondering if it's similar with this calmini gear?

lucky it is a warranty replacement item, right, because then you shouldn't have to pay any duties on them. Such a pity that you have to get them as a warranty part
i have had stuff sent first class air mail which would be roughly the weight of the gears for about $40 took about two weeks. Which is pretty good for warranty parts

whats this about warranty parts grimbo? i know its to avoid the tax, but did you just get the manufacturer to write 'warranty claim' or something on the box?
antt wrote:anyone know what the vitara standard crawl ratio is?
using calmini's numbers. with their 134% reduction, taking the ratio to 79.3:1. i divided the 79.3 by 234% then multiplied it by 100% which gave me the standard crawl ratio of 33.8:1
is this about right???
Thats about right give or take the .1 on a 5.12 Diffed vit

AFIK the older series1 hoppers were two piece gears (gear welded to shaft) and they had a few issues with runnout (gear nto perfectly strait on shaft) and it casued issues with the teeth being chewed off the main gear.
Now i belive that a much better process is used (actually the gears are one piece now) so machining tollerances are far better .. and there should be no real difference in strength in the gears anymore ..
The calmini stuff from what I've read on the US forums is well made (the gears anyways)

Vit standard low is 1.816 but don't forget when calculating your crawl ratio to alter it for any change in tyre diameter that you do.
I was told by Customs that duty on auto parts was 15%. What classification gives 5%?
Cost + 15% duty + postage + 10% GST on the lot + customs clearance fee
Is the freight charge including customs clearance fee or plus fee?

When I was going to import a GPS, I was told GST is added on the final price after frieght, and duty has been wacked on the price. Which is crap cos they are taxing a tax which should be wrong.

4wd's get 5% duty... 15% on passenger cars, with 10% GST on top of that.
where did you get that from. I didn't think there is a difference between passenger cars and 4x4's. But tractors and motorcycles have 0% duty.

I think it's to do with this file: Ht87w.pdf whereby it states details of the difference between 4wd and normal passenger vehicles in schedules 8702 and 8703.
Hint: Normally 4wd's come in category "other"
