How do the 3.0l patrols go?
Hey all, as the title states, i am interested to know how well the rb30 powered patrols go, things like power, fuel economy and driveability, how do they rate on a 1-10 scale? are they good when the going gets a bit rough?

On a scale of 1->10, i would say about 3.
A motor designed for a sedan pushing a 2.5T 4x4 wasn't Nissan's greatest idea. The Patrol RB30's were also the povo-pack carbied model, not the EFI one's you find in Skylines and VL commodores.
Its fairly easy to put a turbo on them, however you get more mid-top RPM power than usable bottom end.

I have one and am pretty happy with it for the price i paid. Mine is dual fuel and really cheap to run. 70l of gas gets me around 400km with a mix of freeway and city driving. Power up the bush is ok, no where near the torque of a diesel but i have not suffered up any hills yet, as what i lack in low end power i make up for higher in the rev range. Highway i find it great! will sit on 120 anywhere you want to go. (tops out around the 140ish)
Get a turbo one out of a VL commy.......
I run a RB30ET in my truck still, and have been running 26 PSI or so for a year or 2 with no probs......they have a great bottom end.
I'm getting around 246RKW depending on the fuel.
I have a second switch setting that gives me aroun 9 psi for highway traveling.......
Still deciding if the next will be a duramax or a gen 3.... prob the gen 3 I think

People are right there is not a whole lot down low, but 4.8's, and some Transfer gears fix that issue .
Fuel, it is thirsty, but any 4WD is.
If you could find a good RB30 cheap, it dos'nt cost a lot to put a 4.2 to shame
I can run it down to 500 rpm on a big hill and still throttle up no worries....
