My 94 NJ is dead!!!
hey guys as the topis name says my nj shorty is dead.. after loosing water from then an unknown source and loosin a little bit of compression she finally went POP!! on my father a couple of weeks ago.. he rang me at work and said there was water pissin out the back of the block and a noise u dont want ur pride and joy to be makin.. anywho i took to a mechanic with a budget of 1k.. being a 3rd yr apprentice boat builder its all i can scrape together for a little while.. he told me it was the head gasket and its gunna be 1500 - 2k to fix.. not liking that idea i took it too another guy who is a friend of my fathers friend who said he would do it for 1k.. then 2 days later my dad said he thinks its got a warped block which in tails in new motor im guessing.. not being to pleased for a couple of days i started ringin every place on the goldy and some in brissy about prices for another motor.. been quoted anywhere from 1k to 2.5k.. just lookin for some other options and some guidence.. cheers guys..

A warped block .. I amy be naive .. cannot say I have ever heard that one before .. but prior to my paj .. I've just replaced my 6G72 as i drowned the whole car and sucked some mud into the sump. I found a Jap import for $1100 from a wrecker near work. I'd also been quoted $2500 for the same thing. In my opinion the jap import is the way to go, although i think i got very lucky with the price. They are guaranteed to have between 60 and 80k and most of the aussie ones are at the end of their days.
I pulled mine down to basically block and heads and replaced everything (again lucky for me- insurance covered it) When i removed the rocker covers to replace the gaskets, they looked like i had just purchased them from mitsubishi they were that new. The valve train was shining new and it still had the Mitsy tape over the dizzy lock nut.
Its done about 1000km so far and i'm over the moon with it. Lifters are quiet as, doesn't use oil and has heaps more grunt. I also replaced the front seals and timing belt kit, water pump, r/cover gaskets, inlet and ext gaskets, rear main, flywheel machine and clutch kit, had the injectors cleaned and radiator re-cored, full hose kit and fuel pump. I also had a 2 1/4" exhaust system with high flow cat fitted which gave some good low down torque increase. Again though, i had the advantage of insurance paying for it.

just to update im thinkin of gettin a 6G72 out of a magna.. from wat i hav read on some random sites iv found apparently its not that hard to put the magna motor in.. i think all i hav to do is take the stuff off one motor and put it on the other.. in a nut shell anyway.. has anyone done this to there paj and does anyone know if the magna motor has less power then the paj.. its a cheaper option to think about i guess..
