hey guys i have a 89 GQ diesel patrol my alternator is not chargering and is leaking oil. a few things what is the going rate for a new alternator? whats the amp out put for a standard nissan alternator? And whats the biggest amp/ alternator you can get 4 the nissan ?

Having said that, if the vacuum pump is leaking that might not mean the alternator part is dead, the vacuum pump might be what needs an overhaul.

sounds like the rear shaft seal between the alt and vac pump has gone, i will either just be a seal or it wilol be a scored shaft as well,
this allows the oil to enter the alt housing and drain out a small drain hall in the bottom of the alt,
last time mine went it cost me $500, was urgent, and included a full rebuild,
but you can find after market higher out put alts with vac pumps through a company in QLD called AE auto electrical i think,
standard alt puts about between 50-60amps,

As said above standard alternator is 60A. I just upgraded to a 120A unit from AEA. Sourced it from my local auto sparky. From memory was around $500. Straight bolt in replacement. The way to go if you are going to replace.

the seal commonly goes on these, quite often damages the shaft beyond scrap. if you open it up and have a look, you might get away with just a clean and a new seal before it does too much damage. if not, i deal with AEA alot and they make decent stuff so i agree with the upgrade.
