ok so prop a stupid question, but what is the point of of a stinger on a front bar? i initialy thought it had somethin to do with coiling the winch cable over it for easy access in comps, but iv seen them on bars without winches
so, whats the point of them???

To stop you from rolling your car "head over heels" doing descents on very steep rocks. I think it's an american thing...... havent seen any here, probably impossible to get engineered anyway.
2001 GU Patrol DX wagon, TD42, Air Lockers, twin spare carrier, Barrett HF, 35" Treps, high pinion rear, Staun beadlocks, 60l Engel and more!
how are they not legal. i was of the impression that the leading edge of the bullbar must be rounded no less then 10mm. i got mine engineered with a stinger. old pic and mine isnt that tall either. i love it for nosing up stupid steep shit. oh and i know its ugly lol
that f***n hippy in that f*"*""n g60

how are they not legal?......because they protrude forward on too much of an angle and anyone hit will potentialy be forced under the vehicle.76patrol wrote:how are they not legal. i was of the impression that the leading edge of the bullbar must be rounded no less then 10mm. i got mine engineered with a stinger. old pic and mine isnt that tall either. i love it for nosing up stupid steep shit. oh and i know its ugly lol

thats not a problem - at least in WA - i checked this with my engineer when doing my front bar - as long as the sides deflect away from the vehicle you can basically do anything you want up front - technically you could weld big spikes to the front of the bar work (according to him) and its legal - although common sense says you wouldnt... lol as well as the amount of police attention you'd receive.
In the pic above - if the end pipes werent pointing backwards wrapping the body - it'd be an illegal bar, but those small bends make it deflect away and hence make it ok... very strange, but meh.

It's worth doing your research - the goalposts do move.
In Vic, there used to be no rules about the profile of a bull bar- only radii etc. However, a some time in the last few years, the rules have changed and any additional barwork much follow the profile of the front of the vehicle, and can't obstruct vision, making the 4 poster "Mack style" bars also illegal.
I've built a stingerish thingy in the past and it was awesome in the bush - It never got used to prevent an endo but was great at threading the car though tight tracks as it was tied to the side rails.
Here's a photo:
I think they are great ( I have on on the front of my RC car and it's awesome - it's almost impossible to endo forwards, and its not even very big - if was full scale, it would be about 18" above the bonnet) but sadly if they are not current;y illegal in your state, I think they might be soon.
