degreasing a diesel engine

I have recently purchased my first desiel 4x4, Isuzu MU with a 4JB1-T.
My question is what do i look out for and what to cover and where not to spray water when degressing?

dont spray water in ya air intake. otherwise, go for it

Wether its necessary or not, i try to avoid hitting the AC compressor or the Alternator too much with the degreaser incase it ruins the bearings.
ummm... I also have an aftermarket alarm, which i cover with plastic before hosing. I actually keep it permanantely bagged now for creek crossings.

I've been told to steer clear of the mech injector pump and steering pump/box. This could just be because you don't want to wash off all the crud that's holding the oil in.
