Hi all together,
my name is Kay-Uwe and I live in northern Germany. My F20 is a mix of a 75´F10 (Body) and a 1980 F20. After 2 years of rebuild, this is how it looks today:
It has a 3" Body Lift, Leather Seats of a 735i BMW, homemade lockers front and rear, 255/85R16 BFG MTs on 7x16 Dotz rims, Warn 8274, vented discbrakes in front.
Planned Modifications are:
Engine swap (3Y Rocky F80) incl 5Speed, Toyota Power Steering.
In future maybe an axle swap with Toyota J7 light duty axles (4,88).
Has anybody done this before?
greetings
Kay

Jumpinjack has posted some more details of his lockers over on daihatsu4x4.eu in this thread http://www.daihatsu4x4.eu/viewtopic.php ... sc&start=0 which is a general discussion on lockers. It turns to english about halfway down the page.interested in your home made lockers got some info about them would be great thanks..
selfmade lockers
Hi again,
I want to give some info on the lockers.
The function is similar to Toyota, Suzuki or G-Wagen Lockers. The axle shaft has enlengened splines, where a splined tube can be moved on. The head of the splined tube like is a crown, which locks into the differential carrier which has the same crown surface.
some pics:
enlengened axle splines
air cylinder, 2way
here you see, that there was al 1x2cm hole drilled into the axle housing, where the pushrod moves the splined tube inside the axle.
The pushrod must be moved about 1 cm to engage / disengage.
I closed the hole with some rubber to prevent water and mud to get into the axle housing.
sorry for bad technical English

Interesting pictures, I had been wondering if I could get a solenoid from Kam diffs (http://www.kamdiffs.com/diff_lock.htm) to do the same as your air cylinder. The system they offer for Land Rovers and Suzukis is similar but everything is inside the diff housing (after modification to the casing).
Hi Steve,
KAM Lockers look fine to me. I have witnessed a KAM equipped Suzuki Vitara recently at the EURO Trial 2009 competition. The KAM requires of course a custom made diff cover (similar to the KS vacuum locker).
A strong solenoid is obviously sufficient to operate the locking device. It should be possible to weld a sealed box to the F20s axle tube to have all watertight and protected (like Toyota Lockers). Maybe the box can be positioned on top of the axle, additionally serving as a reinforcement?
