Grand vitara transfer case reduction gears.

Post by crazynic »

Hey there,

Does any one know why you can get reduction gears to fit the 2lt 5spd grand vitaras but they will not fit a 2.5lt v6 5spd of the same year?

Are the transmissions/transfers different?

Can you put the transfer off of a 2lt on the back of a v6 5spd box?

I'm just feeling a bit left out with no of the shelf reduction gears and dual transfers seems a bit much work.

The V6 manual gearbox uses a different size output shaft. As a result, the splines on the input shaft of the reduction gears have to be different.

That's the only difference I'm aware of.

The V6 auto's have the same output shaft as all the other manuals AFAIK, so fitting an auto is another way to running gears behind the 2.5 V6.

Would the gearbox/transfer out of a 2lt bolt to the back of a 2.5lt ?

Or are the bell housings different?

Its a shame know one in the Suzuki aftermarket has come up with a solution for these trucks.

changing a grand from manual to auto would require a loom change also as the computers for engine and auto are a single unit.

However the A44DE is a cinch to control without an ecu - so that drops a level of complexity off the conversion.
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.
