Anyone used John Wilson to engineer their 4wd?

Post by joshy »

Just wondering if anyone has used John Wilson/akzengineering to engineer their 4b? howd you find him/would you use him again?

already spoken to him and sent him an email regarding my project, but he wants some coin before we talk anymore...which i think is fair enough in regards to the amount of mods and type..but id rather keep my money if he isnt that helpful?

Cheers, Josh

He engineered the hilux i have atm.

89 dual cab with a injected 5 litre in it. cross over steering and a few other things.

The car didnt look like it would be engineerable at the time either haha. It was huge

I bought the car like that, so didnt actually have to deal with him. But i spoke to him on the phone when i was buying and he seemed alright.

How much is he asking from you first up?

Mines getting re engineered atm for alot bigger mods, and the engineer ususally takes a small amount for the first sighting of the car then you pay the rest when they sign it off.

Really didnt give you much info on him, but i thought id tell you anyway

Cheers

I used him 5 years ago for my jeep. Easy to deal with. Most of the engineered jeeps in the ACT Jeep club have used him including up rating towbar limits for towing campers etc. I guess all of our jeeps are bolt on mods (suspension, wheels etc) not custom fab.

In the ACT, he follows NCOP as you would expect as that is what ACT RTA have adopted so no getting engineered for 33s on a TJ anymore (stock is 29").

The RTA does not recognise NCOP in its current form in any way, although some engineers are using it

He did my Patrol, 35's , 4 inch, turbo, cab swap and few other bits. Was cheap and quick. Easy to deal with.

Hey Liam

I have an 80 series in similar trim to your Patrol and am wondering roughly what you meant by 'cheap'?

Care to share?

$660 inc GST.
I believe since then he's put prices up by about 30%.
still seemed pretty reasonable, especially since he came to me, was quick and not too pedantic.

Make sure you tell him everything you want on the certificate or he misses half the things on your car, and check it throughly once you get it. It took him several goes to get all the details correct when he engineered my mrs' car, even when he had all the details faxed to him, and he nearly left half modifications off the certificate when he did my car. I will be getting my Patrol engineered by Ray Spence I found him a lot better to deal with.
