are my speedy rims up the sh1t?!

hi all,
has anyone else out there got speedy(sunrasia copy) rims in 15/8 running 33'/12.5' and having trouble will balancing??

long story short, iv owned a set of standed GU st rims for ages now running 285/75/16 tyres and have never had a problem with balancing! had them on my GQ for about 2 years and ran them for about 6 months on my GU before gettting some 15/8 speedy's with 33'12.5 cooper st's.
now the tyre shop could never get a decent balance so they replaced them(tyres) under warrenty assuming they were faulty.

oh and my truck got a correctly set up HD 2 1/2 odd inch lift.

i got the coopers replaced with goodyear wranger silent amour mounted to the same rims and again they couldnt balance them correctly..this whole saga went on for months and i eventually found a place that did on car balances and got them the best they have ever been but there was still a shimmy!

and to be honest i know people will say it the "patrol" wobble but in a correctly set up rig, new bushes, wheel bearings and swivel hubs etc i dont expect this to happen!

now the other day i put back on my standed nissan rims with the 285's back on it my truck drives as smooth as silk

so this has got me thinking its the rims!

so has anyone got any tips to know if my rims are up the creek of should i bite the bullet and buy some proper ROH sunnies?!

cos i know the speedies are cheap crap at $50 odd bucks each and the ROH's are $140 odd by memory!

has anyone got any experience in problems such as this?

I used to have the same problem and had to replace two steel rims every 40,000klm due to them being bent and causing balancing issues, after replacing 10 rims I switched to alloys and new have few 100,000klm with no more bending issues.

i thought alloys would warp easier due to heating/cooling while truck is loaded up!
iv heard of guys with duel spare wheel carriers etc that have had there 05 and up nissan alloys warping!

but i assume you can some better quality ones than nissan

Not too keen on alloys, but may have to bite bullet :-#

umm dunno hey..
it's been a while since playing in serious mud!
coming into summer me and the boys mainly play in the sand quarry before/after we go surfing!

but if there was mud in there i'd say it would have washed out by now..

there was some no name brand steely's which had to be removed from mine vehicles cause the centres were being torn out of them...

we have occasion issues with rims being out of balance. Even the good brands can be crap. If we're suss on a rim we will spin up the rim only on the balancer and you can easily tell if the wheel isn't straight. we send them back to the supplier if they are out of round.

well iv had the cheapo speedies for 3 years now and iv giving them a flogging so i dont even think it worth the money and time to get the tyre shop to take all my wheels off to check the rims..
and my closest tyre shop is run by knobs! they probly wouldnt tell me either way! and i havent had the time lately to book it in anywhere decent!
might just bite the bullet and buy my self an early crissy present

Doesnt sound like mud is the issue.

Ive read a couple of things about problemswith sunnies and copies being out of round, out of balance, or the centres cracking out of them.

Alloys cant be fixed easily if you bend them, I had alloys and bent one, cost me $175 to have it fixed, and it was just repairable, I ended up bending three in one trip, it was cheaper to get a new set of decent steel rims.

ok lads, after a lot of trial and error yesterday involving switching between my spare set and my speey set i think i have narrowed it down to 2 rims.
and by memory these are the ones that the tyre place had troubles balancing(iv got each rim numbered 1-4) so iv put those two on the back and my truck drives nice again! only a very very light shimmy at 90km!

so since it's more then 1 rim im looking into gettting a whole set of black ROH sunnies, checked out alloys but although they look awsome im not to keen on spending a grand or more on rims..

back in the day every patrol out there had white sunnies, must admit i didnt like black to start with but it definately makes the truck look tuffer

silly question but how would they(procomps) be better then the ROH sunnies?
