MQ Headlight Relay Location?

Post by churnit »

Just bought an MQ Patrol and the headlights dont work, I've traced the problem to a relay under the bonnet however this relay looks like it was fitted by someone at some stage as the original loom has been spliced into. Where did the factory relay sit, under the dash or under the bonnet?
This relay that has been fitted is a big unit with two circuits (high and low beam) and separate fuses for each and doesnt look like it will be cheap to replace and I would prefer to return the wiring to original setup if it has been changed.

It should be under $20 to replace that relay you've found there. I paid about $16 for one a few years ago. However it is also easy to replace it with two individual relays.

I can't help on the original relay location; I'm not even sure whether MQs originally had them. A lot of older cars run the headlamps straight from the switch.
This is not legal advice.

According to the manual there is a factory fitted one. I'll just replace the one thats there if its that cheap but would like to find out what the original setup was.
