After lots of searching i have decided to go with a gt2871 ball bearing turbo on my 2001 N/A td42 but i am unsure what trim to use.
At the moment it has the standard pump and injectors but i will probably modify these down the track. I was planning on using a .86 trim but am worried it will take too long to boost with the standard pump but if i use the .64 and down the track modify the pump will it run out of steam too early. The car is going to be used for comp work but will also be driven on the street on a regular basis. i would like something that would spool around 1200-1300 rpm and hold good power all the way through. I plan on running around 15-20 psi boost.
Any information would be greatly appreciated

Hey Tomo,
I run this turbo with a big spec pump but have the .64 exhaust housing. It spools up around 1500 around 10psi?? and makes good boost 18psi?? around 1800rpm. I'm currently running 22psi.
I have heard the Mitsu's come on alot earlier and will go to about 4000rpm. This makes them really punchy of the line and Torque is massive. I forget what the model number was though. They used to be very popular, JPC used them"I think" a couple of years ago, just need to be 360 trusted. Although saying that have heard of some making 180rwkw whithout the 360 trust.

V8s are nice, but you cant beat the sound of a turbo working the magic on a juiced up diesel.
curently looking at putting a garrett turbo on my 1hdt gt2871r in either the 48 or 56 trim there is the 52 trim but you need to buy inlet flanges. with the .64 turbine. been speaking with another guy on here who has got the gt2871r 56 trim .64 turbine did have the .86 turbine but was to lagy down low. it is fitted a 1hdft auto with gas injection and making 195hp

Yes but i want it to be able to rev right out and not get choked up. plus when i mod the pump i dont wan the egt's getting too high. i just want it to spool nice and early and boost until at least 4000rpmGU-ish wrote:mayb try the gt2860 if your after the boost at lower revs...

anyone know where i can get a high mount manifold from. i emailed turbo glide but they said they dont seperate the kits . Monkeycritter. i looked at your posts. what trims are you running. would it be possible to give me an idea of what boost you have at different rpm. just so i can get an idea. mainly just at 1500 and 2000rpm also what will it rev too and how much boost are you running. just want to get it all right the first time.

Fixed geometry turbos have a pretty defined operating range. Unfortunately variable vane turbos in a size suitable for the TD42 aren't common. You could try a pair of GT1749V's from approx 2 litre diesels.
.64 rear end. Rev's at the moment to 3500 easy, where before, I needed a cut lunch. Once I give it fuel, she should go further, and boost will be different.
Just like what everyone else says on here, decide what you want first, then pick the turbo to suit. High mount manifold makes for an easy install. There is a guy on ebay right now sellin' a turbo manifold, made of steam pipe, looks prett good, with T2 or T3 flange.
