i have recently broken my 3rd gq driver's side cv, and am tossin up weather to put a cal offroad one in or try another brand or keep with the genuine cv. any opinions would be helpful as i know of blokes whove broken cals and had issues with them

Cals are still the strongest cv you can get for the GQ/GU no doubt about it yes people still break the cals and people still break longfields
depends on how you treat your rig if your flogging the shit out of it then yes stuff is going to break if your sensible about your driving then cals would be the go

thanks for all the input, at the moment i swingin towards cals. no offence to those who run treated ones, but i know blokes who have gone through them like a standard one, and have put cals in and they've lasted well. i've definantly got some thinkin to do.

Yeah mate i did but running treated cv's you still run standard axles i went to cal's because i wanted the strongest cv axle for my gq now that im going portals my cal's will be up for sale shortly

Cals will do the job, but also consider, for in and or around the same price,
that if you fit a GU front diff, and get the extra width, you get the bigger/upgraded breaks, and bigger CV's...
I'm not saying the GU cv's are an equivalent to the cals, but they are much better than the GQ.
I run cal's as well, and they do the job. I didn't buy them because i was busting the cv's, i bought them to create a reliable set up, that I can trust in the bush.
Word of warning though, you will now start to bust the hubs if you push big rubber, have good power, and like to let the pony's run....

I'm not entirely sure about that. I looked at it from a point of view of an upgrade, however, i ended up going with my current upgrade, because i didn't have the time to fit a GU diff.SIM79 wrote:How much? cheers all, i'm competin in my first comp, the cq offraod challenge, which is a 3 car team winch challenge style event, on the 7/8 nov. and already have a srengthened n braced gq front diff. i am keen to upgrade my cv's as i have broken a few now, and as i start to get into the comp scene i imagine theres every chance i will break more. if i was to go again i reckon i'd put a gu front end in. i think i've decided to go with the cals, once i sort some funds out, keep the advice commin, or any different ideas on different set ups keen to here what other people are doin or have done.
