Urgent Shocker Advice Needed!!

Gday,

I need to get a new set of rear shockers installed urgently on my 03 TD Hilux next week prior to a big trip over to Coffin Bay SA on October 15.

I dont need a lift of any description so am simply after some advice on what shockers would be best - standard height - rear set only.

I have been quoted $350 for a set of rear Old Man Emu shocks - that's installed.

I also have the option of the following at a similar price:

Rancho

Ironman

Tough Dog

Now i have no idea when it comes to shockers so some advice on what would be best would be great.

I like lovells and also Dobinsons. I have also been told buy friends who are running them that the Boss shocks sold buy shane at suspension stuff are an awsome shock also.

If you want a set of shocks to fit and forget, get some Bilsteins. If they are out of your price range, most other brands will get the job done so look for one that offers a good warranty at a reasonable price.

I have a ute the same as yours and when i had to change mine i went for TJM XGS shocks. They have been on there for about 4 or 5 years and still work well.

Hi mate, ive got Boss shocks & wouldnt use them again. They are good when there working but had nothing but dramas wth them. Im changing my rears & ill wait for the fronts to go before i change them. Cheers Loz.

x2, I am not disagreeing with anything said, just keen to hear the story behind them.

Also put another point down here for Lovells, I have had them installed in family members vehicles, and the onyl reason I didnt fit them to the rear of my rangie si due to overall length.

All reposrts from family and friends who have them are good.

If you want the best or better then Bilstein or Koni. I run bilsteins front and Boss shocks in the rear. Eventually I will be running bilsteins all round.

The OME gear will do you well.. Good warranty if required to go with it.

I have used OME, EFS, and Tough Dogs and would never ever get the tough dogs again but had a good run with the ome, and efs.

At one stage on my old 80 series I used EFS coils with the Old Man Emu shocks and it was THE best ride I ever rode in, in an 80 series.

Have heard some bad reports on Ironman suspension but never owned any!!!!!

I think with Rancho you pay a bit more for the money.

If it was my dollars I would go the OME.

yeah i have had ome s in the past and they were great as was pro comps but there are better these days i beleive. Tuff dogs wouldnt touch them.

The adjusting knobs were ceased before i got them on the car. I had two other shocks sent out and they were the same. Then a third and the fourth one was good. After the second trip out one of the rears starting pissing out oil. The other on the rear now has 15 adjustments instead of the 12. Maybe the rear was over compressed or extended but the pro comps i had handled it and they were the same length with bigger springs. Cheers Loz.

Nothing but positives regarding the Boss shocks here, i have them fitted to a lifted 80 & think they are far & away better than the KYB's that where fitted for a period of 2 weeks prior to moving to the Boss shocks. I reckon they have been on the 80 for about 6 months now.

They have had the later updated shocks (silver bodys) out for a number of months now.

I have heard good things about the Lovells if going non adjustable.

One thing i reckon is key too having any shock work well is springs that are not sagged.
