FJ40 grille replacement

Post by bj on roids »

Has anyone got a source for a replacement grille in either aluminium or stainless to suit an FJ40.

I want something with holes around the same size as an origianl FJ40 grille too. Not the small ricer aluminium mesh, which I have now. Chasing something with better airflow, and maybe in stainless.

Maybe take the original grille to a steel place and see if they have anything similar? I've seen the same mesh design but much larger and in aluminium. There'd be something around.

You sure its the mesh Rob? I've got the same stuff (out of the same packet yours is from  ) and I don't have an issue. Have you removed the whole rad screen and tested?

Yeah I know. I mean have you taken off the screen that sits in front of the rad that I assume you mounted the ally mesh to to eliminate that causing overheating? Or is that already gone and you've just used mesh on the headlight panel? I just put the mesh over the original rad screen and assume you've done the same?

I have proper stainless mesh Rob if you need it. I can fit it up while your 40 is in my shed. It is 1.2mm stainless wire in a mesh weeve 10mm in size. i have a 1.2m x 1.8m piece still in the shed. I use it on fr.bars & vents.

I mounted it to the fibreglass, it is the only thing between the road and my radiator.

It's not TOO bad, just sitting in traffic, in the middle of the day, it's getting red hot... 95C

Although the fans don't switch on until 92.6... It kinda freaks me out... :?

The fan cycle only lasts about 5 mins, but if I can get airflow it's down around the mid to high 70s and sits there all day....

Hmmm, definitely not a flow problem, I might try and add some capacity, or something.
