Ok i dont know squat about them except they used dana diffs and transfers.
Does anyone know what sizes they used?

ratios:2.99, 1.83, 1.0:1, rev 2.99:1

Transfer Case:
Spicer Model 20-2speed
Ratios: 1:1, 2.03:1

Final drive:
Front 4.10:1
Rear 4.09:1
My info doesn't say what make the diffs were but I believe they were/are Dana 18's

dana 18 wouldnt make sense. Thats smaller then a current jeep with there tooth pick axels.
I was thinking dana 44s or perhaps 60s??

saw 3 in a "convoy" on recent trip to fraser on their way to rainbow beach...
mates dad had one, but they are rare as rockinghorse poo.

haha,i wish there were more of these around hay..

my grandad designed these cars (gavin henderson),and had one when i was a kid..
im spewin he died,if he was here now he would tell you EVERYTHING he knew,sounds like want 33's knows a bit..

they definately dana diffs but dont know about a 18?maybe a 44?

they come out with a 302 windsor in them too i thought..

No Windsors, in fact no V8's at all.. Even the 6 was layed over with an engine mount spacer to make room between the diff and sump pan. Carby had a wedge shaped spacer under it to return it to level.
F100 & F250 run Dana 44 & 60's they are huge compared to anything available in 1971.
I'm sure they run a Dana 18 at least in the front but can't find a link to back this up..
I'll happily be proven wrong...

Dana 18 is an early transfer case..
Falcons must have used Dana 30 diffs. Same unit as used in early Internation Scouts and Jeeps.

The holden overlander had a Dana 44 front and Dana 60 rear IRC. I doubt very much that ford would have used smaller axles???

International scouts have D44s front and rear.

Same diffs as the jeep station wagon [can't remember the model name] but ford sold engines to jeep I think so probably did a parts swap.

That is a very straight ute. The vehicle had better capabilities in the mechanical side but the body use to bugger up around the front suspension and buckle the floor. Heap more room in the cab than some of the toyota and nissans utes.

I like that. I like the fact it doesn't look stupidly tall. It is a little more gappy underneath than a falcon obviously but doesn't look ridiculous the way car bodies on 4x4 chassis sometimes do.

as far as i know, there is no chassis.. just leaves grafted to the front of the falcons monocoque body. i've never been close enough to check, but is the floor modded for the xfer or is it behind the cab??

There was a story/article in 4WDA mag afew years ago on one of these, however the owner had modified/butchered it a bit. Had 33's and a V8 IIRZC.

Pics are a bit small, and I don't know how big those drums are to use for size comparison.

Rear is a D44 or D60 shape.

Front looks very rounded - so more of a D35 shape.

I read it that way also, but that does not seem correct somehow. Was there a jeep wagoner? I seem to think it was something like that the diffs came from. I remember my Dad was very keen on getting one at the time.

Ahh, I read somewhere that the Wagoneer originally had a Dana27/30 front and D44 rear, then later models changed to D44 F+R. Could be that the changeover was during the time they were making XYs... Or that the prototypes had the 27/30 front and production versions have the D44.

Either way, fairly beefy axles (but not as beefy as an overlander

)

EDIT:

The Dana 30 front axle was used for a short time from 1971-1973 in Cherokees (SJ), Wagoneers (SJ), and J-Series pickups.

i built one years ago
used all wagoneer parts diffs and tcase
made the wedge for the carb and copied the bracesin the front
made better front shackles as the originales used to bend
the very ordinary bit was the steering link it went from the ford box
to the rh wheel very short
some of them were modifies to take the saginaw steer box but they were butchered in
the holes were cut with oxy and not cleaned up and the steer shaft went through the strut tower from the column
also the front shocks had extensions on the bottom of them about 200mm long crazy
been thinking about building another as i can get a rusty original

they look cool

yes it is the guy was going to scrap it but i am going to give it a new home
have a sedan good shell going to look at fitting the running gear to that

should be interesting
