Wiring up TD42
Wiring up TD42
I am fitting a td42 after i have taken out a tb42 how hard is it to re wire or am i better off buying a complete harness out of something that had a td42 in it cheers
thanks mate what about the glow plug timer and i am also putting in ac should the original harness have a plug for the acsmash250 wrote:Mate it is a piece of piss, you just need an ignition wire to the fuel cut of solenoid and re-use you other cabling for your starter motor and alternator.
cheers Ash
I dont see why you can use the original wiring harness for the ac as well, although the plugs may not match up you can always just join the wires. as for the glow plug timer, you will probably need to wire one up ur selves as your petrol one would not have needed this before. Pretty much all you need is a 12v timer and a large enough relay to handle thee current draw from the glow plugs. you would just wire the timer into the ignition so the timer energies when the ignition is turned on and closes the relay for the glow plugs, when the timer times out the relay opens, you could maybe interlock it with the alternator charge wire so that the timer dose not get and power while the engine is running,i.e the alternator is producing 12v. wouldn't be too had to set up have a think about it and stew over some drawings for a little while and im sure you will work it all out!

Hey Brendo,
I've just completed swapping over a 3l to a TD42, the wiring was dead simple, I don't see why the TB would be any harder. You will need a new dash cluster in order to get hte tacho working correctly i would asume as the TD using a magnetic pickup wheras the TB counts points on the disi. Although trial and error with that will prove the best way, either it will work or it won't. Air con and temp sensor and oil sensor are easy as pie. the glow timer can be picked up from the wreckers, just a GQ one is all you need and it's easy to wire up. Just need a feed from the second temp sensor on the thermo cover. Feed to the dash for the glow light, then feed to a relay for glow plugs, then ignition, start and ground.
Happy to help if you're local to the eastern burbs of Melb. Regards Hebble
