hi all, just wanted know how the 1.6 16V EFI compare to the 1.3 GTI motor in strength, are they roughly the same or is one stronger then the other??

What do you mean by strength? Do you mean if you start modifying one or standard?

1600 rod's don't like big revs cos they will jump out the side, and the 1300 GTi's have a steel crank over the 1600's cast crank, but i'ed still prefer the 1600

You dont really need to spin the 1600 as quick as the 1.3 as it has the torque peak allot lower in the rev range than the 1300 (especially the 16v GTi motor) whereas the GTi motor can rev itself stoopid .. (some of the rice boys will set the redline at 8000rpm on em and have the motor hold together a long time). They have forged conrods and oil cooling sprays under the piston crown as well being much much beefier than the 1.6 rods.. (even the normal 1.3 rods make the 1.6 rods look like toothpicks)

the 1600's you can take to 7000 no probs and they also have piston cooling sprays as well

Its more of a question of rod strength, the area around the top of the big end is very narrow compared to the 1300 motors .. (That said I regularly thrash my 1600 to 7000+ rpm ... but it's always in the back of my mind, if I were to blow it up .. I would most likley go back to a GTi 1300 and gear it to gonzo with 8:1 T/case and 5.x diffs for 35's or 36's and not worry about 8000 rpm blasts )
