gq turbo??
gq turbo??
now i have i searched on the site and i cant seem to find what i want. i am chasing info on what specific turbo to run on my td42(wheel trim, compressor exducer/inducer,turbine inducer/exducer etc). its to tow a wrok trailer and for a bit of fun on the weekends. im not after massive power, just keen to run 8-10psi and a simple and cheap setup that i can do myself. also anyone who is selling a cheap setup($1700 or less) please let me know. any specific turbo setups would be awesome. thanks for any help. Cheers Dave

Seen a lot of threads mentioning this but yet to see any evidence. Does anyone have actual dyno charts showing boost in conjunction with rpm.brad-chevlux wrote:from what i've seen the GT2860rs with the .64 turbine housing will make boost from idle and you'll have 10PSI before 2000rpm.
Went down this path with a similar spec turbo and was disappointed. Sold it and bought a custom which performed way better.
Me too, would like to see boost map versus RPM.sootygu wrote:Seen a lot of threads mentioning this but yet to see any evidence. I mean you can get a very lightly modded HT18 factory turbo to make 12 pound at 2000rpm.
Not knocking any info anyone has given im just curious to see the boost map on a vehicle.

I'm pretty sure that if you called workshops like BigO, Dieseltec or PGS, they'd be more than happy to tell you when boost comes on and tapers off. Keep in mind though that there's 20 other factors that come into play that could slightly change boost maps.sootygu wrote:Seen a lot of threads mentioning this but yet to see any evidence. Heres one we did a long time ago. Gu ute, 4.2 factory turbo, top mount i/c, std desert duellers. It shows the vehicle in std trim except for a 3" exhaust, then boost and fuel adjustments, then bolting on a Garrett of ours, then final boost and fuel adjustments.

Andy thanks for that info, ive got a few here of the modified STD wheel HT18 that i have just fitted to my GUIV,std wheels and tyres and diff gears.
Then the same one with higher boost,4.3 diff gears and 35" MTZ's.
Just trying to work out if its worth going to the BB garret.
Ill post the boost maps as soon as i can scan them.
Sorry for the thread hi-jack also.

It goes to show that at high boost levels, the ht18 just can't cut the mustard. Whereas a well matched Garrett stays reasonably level.
Have you had any other turbos beat the ht18 when modified madrolla?

Ive just put one of these on my gq in place of an old t3 unit. Running the same boost(15psi) it has alot smoother power delivery, has around 5psi by 1000rpm and 15 by just over 2000rpm. It holds 15 to 3800 then starts to drop off. I dont rev the thing that much so its perfect for me. Towed a 2.3ton load the other day and sat on 100ks with ease and egt's never got above 440deg at any time.madrolla68 wrote:And how do they go with efficiency and managing EGT's at higher RPM and engine loads.brad-chevlux wrote:from what i've seen the GT2860rs with the .64 turbine housing will make boost from idle and you'll have 10PSI before 2000rpm.

Hi mate, the turbo kit was $2300 including dump flange, t3-t2 adapter plate, water and oil fittings and all studs and nuts. I allready had a 3'' exhaust and turbo manifold. For a manifold you would be looking at $400? and an exhaust would be anywhere from $600 to $1500 depending on where you get it.DAVESGQ wrote:thanks den. thats great to know. if you dont mind me asking how much did it cost ya to set up not including exhaust. thanks mate

Hunt around the net, im sure you could get one for 2g or less. I looked for ages and found some cheaper, i just wasn't sure if it was the right turbo or not.
Yes the bar is a tjm type 3. It was damaged so i cut the box section out and made it a tube bar.

For the lower boost levels it performs really well and boosts as quick as the garret BB and for ease of fitment or a STD replacement for the average joe it is a really good option. Yes it appears to suffer once the boost level is raised a bit but for around 8-10 pund it is acceptable.Dzltec wrote:It goes to show that at high boost levels, the ht18 just can't cut the mustard. The TD05 with the smaller turbine housing than the one that normally comes in the DTS kits is also a very good option.
I would possibly use the garret BB if i was doing a fit up of a turbo kit for a high end application but for performance mods to a factory turbo vehicle i would stick with the HT18 in a lightly modified form. Saves all the headaches of piping,water/oil lines/dump etc and yields really good low down torque values when tuned correctly.
This guy is trying to put together a turbo setup for 2K and for $1450 just for the turbo doesn't leave much money for much else. I would suggest he finds a HT18 that has been taken off get it modified by someone who knows how to build a turbo and use that.

ok well i have also found a GT2560R for $1150 which has the same specs but is rated to 300hp. and for $300 less is it gunna do the same job. also madrolla could you send me the specs of a HT18 and what it is off and where to find them. also what sort of $$ for the turbo and modifications would need to be done to it??

The HT18 is the STD factory turbo that is fitted to the TD42t nissans,so all the mounting hardware is readily available like dump etc.
Im sure that someone will have taken one off to fit a GArret/denco or some such thing and have one lying around. Exchange we sell them for $1100.
