upgrading to gu steering box??

Post by noisy truck »

just wondering what the benefits of upgrading to a gu steering box is on a gq, i've seen this mod on a few trucks now so their must be something to gain, im considering if it would be a worthwhile modification to add to the list of things to do to mine, also what would the cost be for this mod?

thanx for any input

A = need an adjustable steering arm/draglink as it bolts in different than the gq one , and if it lasts longer then it is worth it

Thanks heaps for filling in the Q & A, you have helped heaps with that advice. Now (thanks to you) Im keen to go the GU box mod. not keen on the GU front end just yet, as I might put her into production class in the future.

cheers piglet

A = The pitman arm has a bigger drop than a GQ box so it improves the panhard/steering arm alignment(both run on the same angle

Q2 :- is it a simple bolt in & conect proceedure.??
A = Yes. My mate bolted his in under an hour. and he is no mechanic :D

Q3 :- if mods are required, what are they? & is it really worth all the fuss.?? new front steering arm or tierod end if you already have a adjustable one

so according to this thread, it will bolt straight in, but need an adjustable draglink with a GU rod end at the steering box end.

i think i read in an other thread that some people have had to change to a GU pump aswell to cure some issues.

My mate GQ runs his standard tb42 pump and its sweet..
All he changed was his steering arm but went to a GU front diff at the same time so needed it anyway
