Got a GU 4.2 turbo diesel ute and want to auto it for comp. Will a gq box fit? Does it need to be a diesel 4.2 auto or are they the same?
Any help would be great.

gu ute to auto?
auto
I have put a auto from a gu 4.5 petty behind my gu 05 4.2 td. it all bolts up but the petty starter is 2 bolt and diesel starter 3 bolt. you have to redrill and tap for this but every easy, nissan cast the bell housing to suit either. You need to get a drive plate, front amd rear drive plate brackets from japan, this is because nissan inceased the diameter of the crank compaired to gq diesel. the last thing is how are you going to control it, do you want full auto or manualised auto
manualised is the easyest, buy a new valve body from Wholesale Automatric wire up two wires and your away
Fully auto is hard, you need a full wiring loom and TCU. you CAN NOT use a factory TCU, tryed this and failed, this is because the factroy TCU talks to the ECU and the 4.2td ECU has no out puts for this.
I went down the path of a aftermarket TCU (from the states) completly stand alone and fully programable. works like a dream. every electronic function of the auto is adjustable, line pressure, shift points, torque convert lock up/unlock speed, engine braking and the list keeps on going
Hope this helps
