Prado VS 100
The missus to having a bit of trouble deciding what 4wd she wants . She's always been partial to the Prado 3cyl TD or the 100. This will mainly be for touring and the odd weekend away. Whats the go with the 3cyl TD r they any good?

Dont you mean the 4cylinder 3.0liter TD?
What year Prado was well?
Since I cant afford a 200series or 4 door new troopy, the Prado would be my choice as a 4wd.
And with the money you save on teh same year 100 series you could kitit out well. With decent suspension and diff locks the Prado's become very capable off road and with 180Lt fuel on board, they have the range and comfort to be excellent tourers at the same time.

yea lol i meant the 4cyl. She wants the newer shape one so around the 2003 mark. They seem to be a bit few and far between for sale so thought that would have to be a good sign.

The 120 prado's are a great car. Like everything there are bits to look out for but overall, a great 4by. Things to look out for are the front diff (Air locker fixes this problem) and cracking where the bullbar bolts to the chassis, again check well make sure all the bolts are tight as from what I have heard this seems to contrubute to the problem. Pradopoint is a good website for more detailed info.
In fact my Sister in law drove a 120 prado across the simpson, only had cooper st's and a 2" spring lift. Did it no worries, in fact didn't even get a flat tyre and that was trip from Melb, Bris, west across the simpson to alice, down to adelaide then back to melb. Plus the usual side tracks and site seeing you'd do then. My wife went with her and they had a ball. (I had to work. )
And if it's going to be the DD for the wifey, the prado is much nicer and easier to drive than the 100 series.

Well i think we'll be holding out now to find a prado. She's not too mad keen on all the modsd id wanna make but we'll get some in there for the cape trip i wanna do. Ive just heard they can be a little gutless up hills? Whats the fuel consumption like? TD obviously the better option?

We had the same thing the wife wouldnt drive a 100 so we bought the Prado has been a fantatsic vehicle and I havent been able to fault it. My brother in law has the 3.0TD and ours is the V6 I have gas fitted to ours and its now cheaper to run. We tour in it but most of its time is spent in the city so the gas was a good option.
I reckon the 3.0TD is gutless but I am happy with the V6.
