Tyre Recommendations Please
I am after tyre recommendations for mainly offroad use - good wearing MTs? Road use will mainly be commuting to offroad places.
36" - 37" (or metric equivalent) preferably to fit 16x8" rims and as narrow as possible.
Anyone with suggestions and prices?

need to know terrain you're driving offroad...
I ran cooper STT's as an allrounder and they were great in everything but sticky mud.
Now running Simex ET's (centipedes) and they seem to go well on everything (on road is a little dicier than the coopers but an improvement on all other surfaces, especially mud).

Yep - need to fit on a 8" rim.
Some of the Procomp tyres are listed for 8" rims though - some options there (extra AT and MTs) but how are they for general 4wding as I know little about these tyres.

What you're really asking for is a Q78 swamper or a BFG Krawler... or a 9.00x16 Michelin XML.
"MT's" are road tyres with a slightly more aggressive tread. There are very few tyres designed for offroad use. Most are designed to look tough driving from your house to the track.
If you don't care about dry/rock performance you could look at a Simex centipede, but they're not narrow, or Silverstone MT117 (the 280/85 16 directional one)
I'd still say a Q78 16 swamper, and if you're running them on the FC101 and it's pre 1973, they're even legal.

i've used these Michelin XZL's for years now & i absoulutly love them.
255/100r16 or 9.00r16 in the old language ( so standard size for your 101 ), these tyres are virtually indestructable are good all round performers and are designed to be used with beadlocks and have run flat capabilities.
I run them on a GU ute and they work well on this considering they are designed for use on heavier vehicles.[/img]

Unfortunately cost is an issue - was quoted $900 at tyre but I can get them for $700 a tyre - just not cost effective.

considering they'll outlast any other off road tyre they're still good value.
i bought a set second hand ( about 70% tread ) and done nearly 80.000km on them and that was giving them a hard time too.
Since the FC101 thing is confirmed, I think Michelins are the only option. Military tyres are really the only thing that would look right.
Those XZL's are cool.
You could always stretch the legality a bit and run the 325/85/16 XML's as used on the ASLV - they're heavy and huge at nearly 39", but they are awfully cool.

A 101 only has 6.5" rims but runs tyres that are 35.5" as standard (9.00x16). As as been highlighted the only readily available tyres to fit this size have to be tall and narrow - like the XZLs which are just too expensive. I can get the rims widened relatively cheaply but am not sure to go to 8" or 10" rims (I would prefer 8") - this may be dictated by the size tyres available that are large enough - ie larger than 900mm rolling diameter 36-37" - narrower the better. Of the tyres suggested there are a couple of ProComps that would fit the bill if not too expensive.
I tried to keep the original post as specific as possible to what was needed without undue extra information - the type of vehicle was not relevant to the question asked - however all is now exposed
