I just called repco Kal, same story, no engel's here, just a mistake in the catalog...

Which we already knew, but i "was" going to try my luck at getting a quoted engel at 8hundy........ and or take the piss. either of the two.

I am looking for a fridge, and I think I'll still hunt for an old engel, one I can beat up in the back of the ute.
Nice gq swb ute chop with a huffer for the good times

Believe what you want really, because I believe what I've heard and saw. And im entitled to it,

so think it's BS, doesn't kill or harm me bad in any way. I've told you what exactly repco boys said and this is it.

anyways, back with the topic.
No one gives a shit about what the Repco bloke told you. What we are questioning is the fact you say you seen this fake engel badged fridge with your own eyes. But now can not come through with the pics you said you were getting days ago.

many of you may not know this but you can find buttfest on your local community channel, however not on 4wdtv as you would first assume. he is in fact on a show called the shambles.

Not sure why i am bothering to write this but anyway.....

The fridge ahown in the Repco cataloge is a Memphis, sold under the brand Repco now use called Gearup.
There is a mistake in the catalogue printing, to which a retraction has been (or at least should be) display in all stores stating this fact.

Repco do sell Engel fridges, which I am guessing this would be what was seen and mistaken for, by I think BUFF35T.

Info given out by staff differing to this I am guessing was and error by the staff, or given before the catalogue error was found. We are all human (or human like) and prone to being wrong at times.

There was an apology in the paper yesterday about it being wrongly advertised.

It seams this is all you have to do after you have ripped off enough customers....

How have they ripped of any customers? Did you go down to the store and give them $800 for a fridge with an engel badge that wasn't an engel?

No. And neither did anyone else in Australia. No one was ripped off... they may have gotten your hopes up, and that is all.

All this whinging is starting to stink like a crappy american lawsuit. People wanting something for nothing, from an honest mistake, that didn't even really inconvenience you.

And anyone who believes repco deliberately advertised the fridge as an engel is probably as dumb as buttfest.

It's called bait-and-switch and it's a classic, well known form of hard selling. And it's illegal for a reason.

As for an honest mistake vs deliberate deception, that is simply not an issue (imho) with a company the size of Repco. Not having a system in place to catch mistakes is bad enough in itself... especially with their history.

And whether this case was an honest mistake, it is very obvious that their case back in 2006 was deliberate deception. So why is it so hard to believe that this is deliberate too?

However I agree the only people who should be compensated would be ones who have actually lost dough in some way. A corrective statement is the right approach here.
This is not legal advice.

Mainly because the last time they did tried it they got a huge fine and gave out a crap load of $100 gift vouchers.

The fine was in the 100's of thousands IIRC??

Would take an awful lot of extra sales of DVD players to make up even a part of that.

You would however think that someone from Repco who knows what they are doing/selling would proof read the catalouges first  ... so I might modify my statement from "honest mistake" to bloody stupid mistake.

proof reading is only as good as the proof reader. If they don't know what an Engel fridge is then what? Also they may have originally had an Engel fridge for sale and pulled it at the last minute and substituted it for this one.

Mistakes happen all the time when you have people involved and in most cases that's all they are, mistakes. However when you combine it with a track record of similar stunts, well…

NO mention of a fine here, and the gift vouchers were only to people who complained in writing. I'll bet REPCO still made money.

Also note that this was in 2005, and the program mentioned in point 1 ran for 3 years (and may now be over???). Perfect time for repco to revert to theiir bait advertising tactics.

I went into the Repco at Gateshead (Newcastle) last Monday and the had the Menphis in there on special but they also had the Engel in there as but not on special. I actually found the catalogue and asked if I could get the engel at the menphis price and showed them the catalogue.

It was the first they had heard of it but they wheren't really surprised with the stuff up. Side by side the fridges don't look anything like each other and the big Menphis badge on the front tells me there got nothing to do with engel what so ever.

Cheers Mick.
