just wondering how many of you guys out there.. particularly in Victoria.. are copping defective notices? and what for?
I got pinned two weeks back for mudflaps, flares and my little shitty tail lights. they didn't pick on my 35's, extended shackles, or any of my other stuff.. and iv heard of them trying to do stock luxys for having UHF aeriels??

Mudflaps and tyre coverage are the normal items to pick on.
However, depending on the officer, they may or may not tick the "RWC" box on the bottom of the form. This might make things much more complicated depending on what's been done to your car. The police aren't specialists- they'll go for the easy targets.
The obvious lesson is to keep your tyres covered, mudflaps in place, and lights up to scratch.

so now with the wheels covered below the axle line.. flares out past the Tyres and ADR approved tail lights I should be as safe as i can get considering aye?

I hear ya mate, they're just pricks somtimes, i got pinged on a long w/end for no mudflaps, tail light out and aftermarket steering wheel at a breath test in bonnie doon. EVERY 4x4 was being pulled over though even a well set up 105 series got done for mudflaps and too many lights what a load of crap i thought. I had to get the major rwc done was just a pain in the ass.

anyhow so they only seem to pick on the obvious? my brother got unlucky in his rx7 a few years back and got pulled aside to a nicely set up bay where they had a mechanic that combed over absolutely everything and didn't miss a thing.. doesn't happen these days?
thanks for all your input, I'm guessing since there's nothing too obviously illegal that I shouldn't let them be behind me but I'm more or less as safe as I can get.. might peel off the "WARNING.. mud makes me horny" sticker though .. and maybe the damn p plates too!

in qld from memory the roof spoties not allowed for road use only offroad use and have to be able to be turned on from outside the car or if you can turn them on from inside the car have to have the fuse or relay removed so you cant turn them on from inside. when you get pulled over. then that way it shouldn t matter how many you have on your roof because they technically don t work. other people might know something different
Just buy 2 good quality spotlights, and you wont need 1200 hanging off everywhere. Makes driving at night off-road much nicer. Never seen the point in roof mounted spotties, unless they're the pivot type for hunting.

Sorry mate but it's this type of attitude that just plain sux. Regardless of your "motorsport" background you have less than 1 months experience driving on the road with other road users. The only way to get experience is through years of driving, there is a reason why the Police will pull you P platers up, yes you are an easy target but sometimes P platers don't learn any other way.

-bald front tyres, yeah i copped that one as they were
-no front bumper, again i didnt have a front bumper as id just taken the alloy bar off the front due to being bent and broken in a bingle only a week earlier
-loose battery clamp, which i tightened right there in front of the cop, but still pinged for it
-did not say a thing about rear having no mudflaps, i even asked him to check the back over for me, he said it all looked ok
so i got a bumper for the front, replaced tyres and got it all cleared
i guess how badly you get done depends on the level of knowledge of the person doing the check and their mood at the time, i was upfront and didnt give the copper any crap and he was not too bad

Sorry, maybe I'm going all granddad these days but I find the attitude expressed here, the description of the vehicle and the behaviour fairly disturbing coming from a driver with no experience who obviously doesn't understand how lacking in experience and road skills he is.
The same vehicle in the possession of an experienced driver probably wouldn't be a concern, but this is. The vehicle was put back to stock just to pass RWC, the driver with all of a month of road experience thinks the police are stupid idiots... personally I would bet a hundred bucks on a prang within the next 12 months and all the hassles of a vehicle that's not covered by insurance.
Oh well, I guess maybe it's just me being an old fart again, please carry on as you were as if I hadn't said anything.

(I'm presuming you're talking about a GQ, because of your username. If your vehicle is street legal with 36.8s, then none of this applies.)
In Queensland you CAN NOT engineer larger tyres on a production vehicle. (I am not talking about ICVs.)
If your 36.8" tyres are on a GQ they are not road legal in Queensland. They are more than 10% larger than the factory tyres, and have both increased the load on your brakes (increased polar moment of inertia of the tyres) and decreased the effectiveness of your brakes (reduced the ability of your brakes to apply a decelerating force.)
Barring exceptional circumstances, if you run into the rear of somebody else, you are automatically considered to be at fault. The bills will come to you.
If your insurance company notices your illegal tyres, which simple physics will prove have compromised your braking ability, it is easy for them to conclude that your defect was a significant contributor to the accident, and deny your claim. That will most likely place you in a world of pain.
I suspect that is WTF chimpboy is on about.
