Just wondering if anybody has run the Nankang Mudstar tyres.
Looking for a cheap daily driver tyre, that will still be ok for general touring.
They are cheap as chips, hence why I am asking.
I don't need to be told how good BFG's, MTR's, MTZ's are. I know how they perform... I just want to know have you had them on your car, and how did they go???
I,m running them on the hilux an cant fault them so far ,reasonably quiet,an grip well even on wet bitumen,
Only complaint is that their well under size ,my 32"s only measure 30.5"
Picked 4 up 1yr ago 33x12.5 15" $185 a tyre. Cheapest tyre around. Cant beat them for the price! (i rang 10 places to get $185)I run them on a suzuki sierra.
Wear has been great. front depth looks new still, but the edges have rounded alittle from cornering. And the rears are half worn from a welded rear. my own fault!
The 33" was 32" so undersize. But "most" tyres are anyway.
Had them on my old GQ, bought them new and couldn't complain about price. No idea on how long they'll last as i sold the truck, but they were wearing well.
As everyone has said they are a bit undersize, i had 31/R/15i size and the most obvious difference when going from bfg in same size was the fact the tyres are skinnier, really noticed the difference on the road, kinda felt like i was on old split rims as the tyres would move around a bit when cornering, but once you got used to it it was fine.
In the mud they were excellent and cleared very well, even with the sticky Toolangi mud.
Imho they were great for the price, not to loud on the road, acceptable handling once you got used to it and good for day to day, weekend mud work and long distance touring, mine did 5000klm trip varying from bitumen, mud and desert and performed very well on all surfaces.

I love mine. Have had the 33" for over 2 years and they have been wearing really well. They bag down on the rocks and are really grippy in the loose soil stuff. I will be buying them again for sure, especially considering I paid $170 a tyre!

$170 was cheap!! (but 2 yrs ago) Where you get them from?
Got my 33 x 12.50 for $170 a tyre as well from some guy in Sydney via ebay. Rreally happy with them, do everything they should in a mud tyre. Seem to wearing very well under the GU. I do about 150km a week of bitumen driving as its my daily driver and they handle fine, aren't noisy (well it is a diesel DX GU so it woul d have to be bloody noisy to drown at the rattles etc) and are wearing well. Only downside is they are a small 33
Blairs tyres on Forest Road in Peakhurst. The bloke was pretty negotiable on pricing. I highly recomend them, but I dare say the prices would have gone up a bit by now.

Nice. They always seem to have the best deals, and the customer service is great as well. The boss actually fitted the tyres to my car personally and had the time to have a chat about his HiLux and how good he thought the Nankangs were.
These tyres are wonderful. I have always had bridgestone desert duelers...they were a good tyre for basic 4wd'n. They were horrendous in the mud, they clogged quick and dont clear..Dropped down, they were fine on rocks.
I decided to get some new rubber because of the poor mud ability of the old tyres..NANKANG MUDSTAR 32" is what i went with. I drove them for the first time this weekend on exactly the same tracks i did bout a month ago....WOW!!!! these tyres performed beyond what i had imagined...i actually enjoyed the mud for a change, the truck was able to pull through things that i couldnt have done before...I only got bogged once instead of 5 times last time....I canot be happier. Thanks to these tyres i was able to pull up 1:1 grade clay hills no dramas. Bagged out on the rocks these tyres just pulled, very minimal slip and allowed me to attempt harfder lines...The tires clear quickly and provide more than adequate traction on rock and in deep bog holes! They did not suffer any chips after a solid day out.
The noise from tyre is not excessive on road (in comparison to engine noise) they are a little louder than my duelers,,,but not much.
For my GQ, these have proved themselves to be a BRILLIANT tire!
A mate of mine used to work for top tyres (wholesaler for nangbangs). So a fair few guys i kno run them. Ive seen them outlast many sets of mickey thompsons. Not as good a a MTR but cost heaps less
They have the same tread pattern as a buck shot, apparently a different carcase tho

i've had those on a 40 seris and now my gq (same set of tyres)
33 inch only measures up to a 31 inch. not bad traction for a mud tyre when new though. pretty weak in the sidewalls. bag out easily but have had two sidwall punctures and quite a few others in the tread.
i guess they'd be good daily tyres and for lIght offroading.
hi all just got a price from blair's tyres at cabramatta for the nankang mudstar in the 315/75 x 16 = 34.5 inch at $250 each fitted because after having a set of 285/75 x 16 = 33" of them for 12 months they are a good wearing tyre and cheap

Dont know about the muds but the AT ft7 I think are great. I use on front and went toyo transpath for rear in mud.cause of were I was liveing.
This is second set of nankang (previous AT all round) and am happy with wear and grip in all conditions, do you realy need muds for daily drive?

They're the same as the buckshot. I've had mine (285/75 R16) for 2 months, the other day I destroyed one due to a puncture straight through the tread. It was a blunt looking stick, when the tyre came off at the shop the carcass had a tear about 2 inches long. This was on a 100 series running road pressures at the time ( I was on the road when it happened). Maybe they aren't the best for heavier vehicles as they don't seem overly strong. Other than that I can't fault them for the price.
how do reckon they will go on a 93 mavrick ute with a steel tray qwould that be to heavy and also if i get a set i would want at least a 34 inch tyre ? to get a real 33 inch ?
