22re came in the toyota corona

i drove one for 30 min in a demolition derby - no coolant and sitting at the redline and it still ran fine ! (pics if interested http://members.optus.net/demoderby/ )

they're not that good.

i've got a 22re corona - 1984. 3spd auto with overdrive. goes okay but not fantastic. doesn't really rev that high, or quickly. heavy and bulky looking too.

i'd look at sthg else first. carby 8 valve vitara 1.6L would be easier.

In the US the 22R came in the Pickups untill 85 and then they went 22RE untill 95. I understand that the AU pickups (hilux) had only the 18R (Is that right?) I had a 1980 Tercel with an 18r but I can't see it moving a truck.

First gen Hilux had the 18R
Second gen had a 3Y 2ltr and later a 4Y 2.2ltr This motor is similar looking to a K series corolla motor.
Third gen had a Carbed 22R.

They were all gutless and use too much fuel for the performance they deliver.

In Aus the 22RE was available around 1984/85 in a RT142 Corona Avanti.
