Lock Right for front GQ/GU/Mav
Lock Right for front GQ/GU/Mav
I just bought a Lock Right for my front diff for $350Au delivered from http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissan-H ... ccessories
Does anyone run one in the front of their Patrol? How much difference did it make.
Thanks.

I bought a 4wd Systems Lokka for my Mav but it wouldn't fit up front because they're 2 pinion and my diff was 4 pinion, so luckily I was able to run the Powertrax Lock Right (which I prefer anyway). It makes the steering heavier, smaller turning circle, etc but I had twin Lock Rights in my Zook and they're certainly better than nothing.
If only they made them for the rear...

Hi faithy, will be very interesting to see if it fits in your front end. I to looked at this not long ago. As much as i love the idea of the air locker, i thought you couldnt go wrong for the price that you would pay for the powertrax especially the way the dollar is & having owned a patrol with both types of lockers installed, i think the lock rights are great once you get used to them, as was my air locker. There was a post on this not long ago & a few said that it wounldnt fit in the front of a GQ coz the carrier is a 2 pinion were as the rear of the hardbody can be either lsd wich is 4 pinion or open wich is 2 pinion like the front of the GQ. The one wich you have purchased says it suits an open carrier. Also a few said that it wont fit coz the crown wheel bolt patterns are different in both but i cant see how that should make a difference as you fit the locker inside the carrier so no need to touch the crown wheel. Powertrax do list different part no's for both but they list the same part no for the coil & leaf GQ front though i cant see why coz in my nissan manual it states that the leaf diff is a 4 pinion, so who knows whats going on there. Maybe they do it for marketing. IMHO i reckon the one you bought will fit but could be wrong. If so it would be a good find as it is even cheaper than the Lokka wich is a copy of the power trax. I hope it fits for you & i will be watching with interest as will be many others. Keep us posted on how you go. Cheers Loz.
I got the Lock Right delivered today. It is a 4 pinion/spider gear locker which uses the factory side gears. Richmond USA says it'll fit a GQ ute front diff so I assumed it would fit the wagon. It doesn't. Does anyone know if the GQ utes actually have a 4 pinion open front diff centre? I have been told that the '86 - '95 Nissan Pathfinder rear diff centre will fit a GQ front diff and they are a 4 pinion open centre so I am looking for one of those now...
I was contemplating putting the locker in my GQ centre as the Pathfinder side gears are the same part number as the 2 pinion GQ side gears but the Lock Right spacer doesn't centre the Driver so I think the Drivers would try to slide along the pinion shaft then quickly lock the diff, unlock, slide, lock...
Does anyone have any suggestions (or a Pathfinder rear centre)?
Thanks!

Thanks for the advice. I finally found a GQ leaf sprung ute front diff (complete with 3rd member CW and P) from a local wreckers. It's going to cost me $250 though so the "bargain" Lock Right for $350 will end up costing the same as a 4wd System's Lokka delivered.
At least the 4 pinion Ute centre will be stronger than the 2 pinion wagon centre and I will have a spare open centre with CW and P so all is not lost...
