As for the suspension .. the US stuff will make your vehicle drive on the wrong side of the road ...
Support the local industry, with product built for local conditions, local warranty and spares.
For the lift height your after you have 100's of options and asking which is best is like asking around a campfire which brand is better, Nissan or Toyota, Holden or Ford .. you will get 100's of valid opinions as they suit "that persons" need etc.
I fail to see how you ever purchased a vehicle, you cannot decide on something as simple as lights or a liftkit .. .
the infamous "How do I lift a Mav" springs to mind.
" If governments are involved in the covering up the knowledge of aliens, Then they are doing a much better job of it than they do of everything else "
I don't want to get into an argument Wooders, I'm more than aware that you have good knowledge of the US market, however, I have been following the US scene for a long time too - I bought my first US magazine in 1983. You might have misunderstood some of my points.Wooders wrote:
Steve,
It's not often that I disagree with you - but in this case I definately do.
OME is well regarded (read promoted) in the US - but far from considered the "beesknees" and if you doubt be feel free to ask on any number of US based boards - starting with POR
I'm also pretty sure that your generalisations about usage in Aust v's USA couldn't be more wrong. We have just as many poser/soccer mums proportionally to the US.
OME definately did NOT pioneer the idea of a "kit" in the US. Plenty of brands were doing kits in the US long before ARB ever considered selling OME to the yanks.
Without commenting on Ranchos qualitys, I think proportionally one could say they still have a fair foothold in the market. But overall the reason American kits are not as popular here is because there aren't as many American vehicles here - and the "local" propaganda machine is so strong here.
As for claiming we have the most "mature" accessory market in the world - Again I couldn't disagree more strongly - if in doubt google SEMA
Best value for money? Nope that probably is products produced from China/India/Thailand and possibly wearing "local" badges
I'll still claim that the performance of OME product is held in high regard in the US. I'm sure it's terrible value for money in the US though, as their gear is here
I do think that OME pioneered the idea of a matched suspension system as opposed to a "lift kit" requires shocks, brake line extensions, swaybar drop brackets driveshaft modifications. Not compatible will offroad pack 4857R. Not suitable for 4 cylinder models. Requires the use of offset rims.
I'll happily claim we have the most mature offroad acessory market in the world - oh, and I did google SEMA and I got this:
Sorry, a cheap shot I know. I guess my point was we tend to demand OEM quality and performance is surpassed with any equipment we fit. That's not necessarily the case in the US. If that's a result of the Aus marketing machine, then I don't think that's a bad thing.
Anyway, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I've played with US suspension gear, and I've not been impressed. That's OK, There's quite a lot of australian stuff I'm not impressed with either- but opinions were invited by the author of the thread and I gave mine.

Steve.
If OME "systems" are so complete why (for Jeeps) do we get so many calls to add items like correct length swaybar links/disconnects, Slip yoke Eliminators adjustable arms and panhards to cover the items NOT included in them.
I'll conceed there is some rubbish in the US - but there are some incredibly comprehensive and quality kits too.
Cheers Wooders
I agree Wooders - some of those US kits seem very complete. They're quite expensive in general though.
I've seen some scary stuff too - bargain basement heim joints - oversize bolt holes on bracketry etc.
I guess the message it you get what you pay for, regardless of where you buy it.

Yep, spot on mate.ludacris wrote:Quite often there lift kits come up short in height. There shocks deteriorate too fast. They are just not a refined suspension product.

Jack S I told you in your other threads numerous times, from personal experience with these vehicles that the result is very ordinary. If you want Tough Dog suspension you can come pick up the bosses old setup for FREE its sitting on the ground outside the workshop where it has been for the past 6 months.....
He wants someone to tell him what exact brand and type to put in his vehicle, and then wants everybody to agreejop wrote:You've asked all this and more and got a couple of pages of reply's on newhilux.net, what more do you want?
Find someone in your area off the new hilux site, and see if they will take you for a drive in their lifted rig. If you like the setup, just copy it and then we can move onto the next question, what brand UHF, what brand tyres, what brand seat covers etc etc

Cause most contributors to this very thread are posting against tough dog.Jack S wrote:how does it defeat the purpose of the thread. Tough Dog is australian and my thread is named Australian vs American suspension.....
To me it seems you always wanted the tough dog gear and no matter what, it is what your going to get. So the entire thread is pointless now.
Right?
I am not saying that tough dog is a good or bad desicion, as it could very well be the best suspension for you, but you posted this to get answers and most have been negative towards tough dog not Australian suspension.
P.S. Get Konis
no ive never had my heart set on tough dog, but its always been in the back of my mind!
yes i guess most post on here have been negative about tough dog, saying that ive also read many good posts on tough dog! and its the brand that actually most people have advised!
koni?
Ive heard of them but havent seen that many people have them or even mention them.....

i was only recommending them as ive been told that they are a great brand, yet slightly expensive but one thing ive learnt with my ringing around and asking questions is that, you pay for what you get with this type of stuff!.....
Yet now i would change my mind in recommending the tough dog 45mm adjustable shocks!

Hey mate you made the right decision tough dog is the best brand in the world you owe it to yourself to use their products and stop posting about it... (ive never used em or heard anything about them).

Just assuming thats all you wanna hear so there you go...

This made me for the same reasons Grimace has said. Every reply you've had about Tough Dog has been negative, yet you turn around and say you're going to buy it.Jack S wrote:right oh guys, just chill out!

In my opinion that's pretty insulting to those people who have taken the time to write up their personal experience with the gear. I can't see you getting many valid answers to any future questions you post on here.
Why bother even asking in the first place??
Is it school holidays again???
