Pondering power upgrade options

Post by Butt Craic »

Possibly going to get flamed for not reading all of the threads that came up when I searched but here goes . . .

My GU ute is just about at the end of the lease (not that that has really got in the way of me modifying the crap out of it). I have been reading a lot of the intercooler threads with interest because this and the DTS turbo upgrade were on the project list for this year. When I start adding up the costs of getting a custom intercooler made and the DTS turbo upgrade I started to realise that I could probably stick in a fuel injected V8 for that sort of price.

I can't run LPG because I use the car as a daily driver and it freezes over the winter months up/down/across here in the Snowy Mountains.

What am I likely to unload the TD4.2 with around 100k on it for (probably with the 5 sp gear box)?
I'm not very good looking, so I guess I better be useful . . .

Kyles conversion to the VH45 was around $13000 to complete... thats engineered and all...

Turbo and IC will cost you around $6000...

as you say about bein flamed, read the 290348203942093402934802394809 other powerup threads, there are a few good ones there...

go the VH45, it's a quad cam V8. Alloy motor so light, very strong bottom end so will take some serious power upgrades ie, supercharge, or twin turbo's (with intercooler). And it is a Nissan engine so makes it better again. When you buy the half cuts they usually come with the auto and wiring loom, just need to get the output bits of a GQ auto to bolt it up to the transfercase.

might go this way myself.

Thanks - at home I only get around 19 kbps connection speed so you can probably understand why I soon draw impatient at waiting for the enormous number of threads to load that came up when I searched.

Will persevere again tonight and see what turns up.
