Hurricane Headers - Do you need a Heat Shield?

Post by eXc »

Hi Guys,

For a Vitara G16b...did you put a heat shield on?

The heat shield doesn't fit on anymore, and even if it did there are no mounts. I am wondering if I should make one up?

-------------------------------------
Other notes about the Headers
-------------------------------------

Fitted up mostly ok, they don't thread the mounts for intake pipes, which meant I had to get some bolts (M8.20 I think I used for those wondering) Would have been nice if they told me that so I had them ready to go.

It doesn't have the mount that goes half way down the dump pipe. Only about 2mm clearance to the engine, but Liverpool Exhausts (the supplier) says it wil be fine.

I didn't do the cat/exhuast yet, but there is a noticible difference under load. It can go a little harder up a hill. The main place I noticed is out of my driveway it usually coughs a bit getting out, but goes out fine now. Hill leaving my place I usualyl have to go back to first, holds in 2nd now.

Cheers
Chris

Very OT but what's the deal with mismatching/ ill-fitting headers ???

This is nothing against eXc but from the other case of headers not lining up etc in a GV does the aftermarket manufacturers of these brands of headers actually do any proper measurements?

I realise not all vehicles line up perfectly but some of the stuff you see on Outers regarding ill fitting equipment which is meant to be designed for the vehicle is shocking.

I put a set on my Vit when I had it 5 years ago. Had to do a bit of filing to get the holes the right size/aligned at the exhaust end.

I wouldn't worry too much about the heat shield. If you are concerned though, there is special tape you can wrap around your headers. PITA though.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah I have used the tape before.

Good to know others haven't had a problem, but I decided last night it shouldn't be hard to make some brackets up, so I made up some brackets last night, only took an hour and I should be able to get the heat shield back on, just won't be a perfect fit. Just gotta weld a nut or bolt on and paint the brackets now

My concern is the air con line and the rubber air intake near the exhaust and this dodgy up will protect them.

They the G16B ones?

if so they list two different extractors from memory with one coming in sharper than the other.
