welding stainless to mild steel

I suppose the application should be checked frist before offering opinions but really if the application was that structurally significant then (A) it's probably not pertinent to be asking a 4wd forum (no offence to the expert welders on here, pretty avatar or not) (B) I think the designer would be thinking a bit harder than bunging a bit of stainless to mild plate anyway and (C) if they are asking in as little detail as originally done then they deserve any failure they get.

Maybe there is no place on this forum for assumptions but in this case it would appear thatte simple answer of go for it will suffice. Hardly a structurally significant application in this case but I would wonder to myself why are you bothering with the stainless anyway.

I apologise to Awill4x4 if my comments offended this was not my intention I was just making a point that you can not always rely on what you read on a forum because on here anyone can say that they are an expert and no one would ever know any different. Any advice should be taken with caution and then researched further before taking action.

Dont even bother with the stainless go to the local steel merchant and get the correct material Problem solved :armsup:

That's OK Brad, no offence taken. Besides us Boilermakers have to stick together and hang shiat on the fitters. ;)

I'll be the first to admit I'm not a welder, I'm an amateur metal stickertogetherer at best. Yet still my 3/4 elliptic setup has been doing daily driving duties aswell as some hard offroad abuse for 2 years now with Stainless welded to mild steel using 309 rods and my little CIG caddy welder. Welding may be an exact science at times, but at others the science just isn't necessary.

Sorry but from the builders point of view I am definately offended by the use of "liquid nails" that just would not do..... cause you forgot to add the tech screws (self tappers of course) with the Liquid Nails, all us Builders know this will hold anything!!
