Sorry if this has been asked b4 had search but couldnt find what i was looking for, I have thought about putting a Rb25 skyline eingine in my patrol but have since changed my mind for the chev diesel.. my question is what will it cost to buy one, priceing for both the 6.2 and 6.5 N/A engines is what i really after and were do i get one from... Also what gearing is required in the diffs ill be running 37's

If you have a look at the american mags you will see very few people do much with the old chevy diesel engines. If your planing on doing a lot of towing maybe good engine. I've heard of people paying $12000 + to have one fitted. Personally I would go a Duramax or a Ls1 chevy engine. Ls1 engine has been done loads of times so there is lots of help and info. Duramax is nice will probally cost more as only one has been done to my knowage, check out HeathGu for his build. If you really must go diesel then the old TD42 can make very good power.
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

I agree with the two answers above; this was probably (or maybe) a worthwhile swap some years back but it is probably not a good way to go now. There are better options for less money. It is really a case where bigger is not necessarily better, too, because diesels have come along way since those chevs were designed. They are 30-year-old tech.

Talk to Brunswick Diesels in Perth. They fit 6.5 and are doing over 8-9 vehicles a week. I have one fitted and have had no problems at all. even for old tech fords IDI V8 diesels made more power then the chev ever did.

I'd definantly go the chev again,I had the 6.5 installed 60,000k's ago and hasnt missed a beat.$24000 for install running 3.5 diffs I think,(whatever is in the 4.5 petrols).
Average consumption is 14L/100k doesnt really matter if towing or not or 100kph or 130 it's just how much it uses.
I'm not going to get into arguments with the I no everything brigade on here,just passing on what has worked for me,Haven't had a drama with 60,000k long distance travel.Yes it's old but is also proven,much like a 4.2 really.

I don't have any problems with my chey, its been in for a while now and still goes hard. The torque is great and as said the fuel economy doesn't really change much.
These aren't dear motors to fix as parts are readily available locally and out of the States, and we have a good exchange rate at the moment.
Mine doesn't see much highway driving these days as I mainly use it on the weekends. On the road it is quite loud.
I had 3.5 diff gears from a 4.8 auto , these where great on the road but it was a bit fast in low range. Not that the torque suffered. Just a bit to quick when crawling. (4.5L petrols are fitted with 3.9's).
I fitted mine for under $10K (6.5 intercooled turbo diesel) These motors are getting pretty cheep in the state and I have seen a few conversion kits come up from time to time that would make the fit up a lot cheaper for someone looking at doing it them selfs.
I currently run a GU TD42t as a dally driver and I find the torque curve to be wider which makes it nicer to drive on the road and not as truck like.
My 6.5 returns better fuel economy the the 4.2, and has a raw grunt that the 4.2 just can't match. The 6.5 is awesome off road.
If your looking for power torque and reliability the chev is a good thing.
