What are Jimny's Like to Drive?

Post by Remydog05 »

Just wondering what a Jimny is like compared to a Sierra to Drive.

EG do they ride far better due to Coils suspension?

Are they the sort of thing you do a long trip in and feel like you have been in a boxing match like most Sierras?

Any Feed back from people who have been in both cars would be great.

Stock to stock they are a better feeling ride, but i can tell you that a sierra has a better driving position and more room, i felt really cramped in my jimny.

cheers mark.

I've driven mud munchers a few times, far from stock but it does rider nicer than my sierra but feels a lot "looser" on side angles and less predictable on high speed dirt.

Coils do make it a nicer ride though. Apart from the Jet engine transfer case whine it wouldn't be a bad long trip ride.

Thanks Boys

This would be in Stock form with no mods and the person driving it is only 5"4

I'd imagine the better ride is more due to the longer wheelbase than the coils and the better build quality and noise levels with in the cab.

I've driven Melb to Qld twice. IT's ok on a long drive. I bash my right elbow on door rest. Doesn't like corrugations, bounces sideways.. 7.1 Lts 100klms.

i found my jimny to be far more comfortable than sierra, better turning circle too. The jimny handles well off-road if you have the right suspension. With a tough dog kit and the swaybar connected it handles better than most normal cars.

given that this is a 4wd website, i will assume that you want a bit of off-road commentry too.

personally i have never driven one, but a direct quote from a club member down here:

"jimnys - drivetrain made of glass"

I presume he meant the weak sort of glass that you find in light bulbs rather than the tough glass you find in security doors.

i.e. who cares how comfortable it is inside - the ground is just as rough when you are lying under it.

p.s. 31's are illegal in qld

dont have to worry about 31s or mods as it will be stocko.

the sister will be driving it, so it wont go off road much

:D Think Grimbo owes you then ;)

To the O.P. Never driven one myself, but the EFI will make them allot more user friendly than a stock Sierra. I'm outta tech now
