Hey guys, as well as this being a poll, i was just wondering what you guys think of both of these lockers. What have you tried? What works? Whats the best value for money? Worth getting front and rear or just one or the other? All that kind of shit. Just interested in getting front and rear lockers for my 92 hilux, and also the old man wants a pair for a 2000 model 4.2 lt TD patrol. Any help appreciated. Cheers.

Mate, you will get flamed for this. Do a search this has been covered more than anything, it will only end up a locka Vs arb debate and on the end you will be none the wiser. If you want my opinion, weld the rear and then see if you need a front one :D :D

ARB, locrite, detroit, maxi drive

What works?
All of them unless you bodge up the install

Whats the best value for money?
A cheap second hand auto locker

Worth getting front and rear or just one or the other?

yes the age old...

depends on use and vehicle. with the number of road k's i do im happy to have gone for an air locker. for my mates sierra which wont do a huge amount on road most likely an auto.

off road, i attempt most stuff unlocked first time, when i have to lock in the rear and 97% of the time thats enough. but that other 3% of the time the front locker comes in handy and saves me using my overly slow winch.

I only have 2 as the opportunity arose, If i was spending my hard earned in future I would probably just get a rear.

I'm going twin 'lokka's' in my 100 series, DIY install (approx 1 day 2 cartons of beer) for about 1200 bucks.. cheaper than one air locker.

Twin air lockers here. Was always going to get air lockers, especially in the front.

I like the option of turning them on or off when I want, not when the damn things decide to- trying to turn in soft mud might not be enough to get a locker to disengage, which can make tight turns a bitch!

And its nice to be able to "Up the ante" of a challenge by attempting it unlocked to prove to your mates that your not using "Arcade Mode" to upshow them and your actually a decent driver :lol:

Twin air lockers in one, twin detriots in the other. :armsup:
Detroits are trouble free, ARaB lockers play up regularly, but more the lines, wiring etc.

Auto in the front is the best mod I have made to my vehicle. As already mentioned set up is critical and if you dont have a dial indicator to set up the backlash (or know by feel), rip the centre out and take it to a diff specialist. I dont think I will ever buy an air locker, the auto does the job perfectly for me for a minimal outlay. Honestly I cant even notice it most the time.

Air lockers, Front and Back.
Better road manners with full open diff's. Abilty to press a button and know they lock is great.
Never had a problem with them at all. They have always worked, have never leaked and never blown oil back up the air lines.

These, with transfer gears make a fantastic combination. Abilty to SLOWY go over things eliminates, or at least reduces the damage bill.

I clicked manuel (Air Locker) if money is not an issue but in saying that auto lockers are very good especially if you are not competing. You can put a auto front and rear in for the price of one manuel locker.

Manuel lockers are great because there will be situations where being able to turn them of will get you out of sticky situations but if you are not under a time limit (competing) it does not matter all that much.

I've done the twin air locker thing and have gone back to LSD rear and air locker front. I found that the rear locker meant all grip or no grip so you either spun one wheel or you had heaps of traction then turn and spin both wheels or have it unlocked and spin one.
I found at speed in comps the rear locker slowed me down. BUT that is in wet NZ conditions so that has quite an impact. My new truck is rear LSD and front air locker and it is a perfromamnce decision not money.

I'm thinking Auto for value for money (for me anyway) especially in the front, not sure if they work to well in the rear but. :D
1991 GQ ST-3 5spd, motor stock, 2" susp. lift, that's it for the moment but.........
