Engine + exhaust Q ['90 TD42 Mav]

Post by rick` »

Firstly: Anyone got a part number, or a better term than 'oil cap seal' - I got a pretty bad leak from the top of the block and it's practically oozing out from the cap. Not sure if there's a specific size I'd need or such...

And second.. best method of checking the noise output of ones exhaust/muffler? I've gotten some hate mail into my mailbox about it (fairly sure it isn't me) but I want to make sure anyways. I don't exactly have time to leave it somewhere for a day/night and I can't seem to find anything about it on here, or online.. at least for home assessment :-\

Sorry for the noobish questions, still learning the ins and outs of a diesel engine and this is the first time I've really had trouble finding the answer :?

You should be able to replace the rubber fill cap seal with an o-ring.

As far as noise goes - what is your current exhaust setup?

thanks for the input; short answer - picked up new cap since the seal was gone.. literally gone.. in about 50 pieces, and the thread was cracked near the top and starting to break away.

exhaust, pretty sure it's a 3.5" bent.. unsure of further details as it was already there when i got it, def not stock tho. had a good poke around, can't see any noticeable holes, etc. it isn't loose either which was my initial thought... going to be taking it round to a mate's place with some equipment to measure noise output or w/e see if there's something i'm missing.
