Rust Q?

Okay, im sure this topic would've been covered but i couldn't find any, just a quick question or 2.
okay so theres some bad rust, you poke it out, grind it with wire brush etc, neutralise it and protect it, bog it up and paint it or new metal put in, it's bound to start again in a couple of years again.
so if you install an electronic rust preventer, that won't make the rust magically go away, but will it stop it from continuing to eat the vehicle?

On a vehicle that has already got rust an ERPS will simply slow the process down, no electronic device has been able to completely stop rust, but on a vehicle with no rust (new) it is apparently effective at reducing the possibilities of rust by up to 200%.

So all these people that get these systems thinkin their car will never rust are gonna be in a big shock when/if the surface starts to bubble .

That said i would reccomend a ERPS to anyone, the little they do is better than nuthing.

mate of mine who lives in the NSW coast by the beach had his brand new rollux and within the first 2 years rust started on the chassis rails....... he then upgrade it to a 2000 model and fitted one of those ERPS fings and now 4 years later still no rust... Like the purple monster said it wont stop rust but it will slow it down... I also remember reading somewhere that the Army have been using them for ever....

I will second the notion on the true E.R.P.S systems as My father has one in the crusier he owned (the one in the 4sale section that my cousin now owns) and it pretty much stopped the rust spreading. but in his tour vehicles that go to north straddie at minimum 3 times a week, the rust is apparent on the older one (1999 troopy) and slowly spreading bit by bit, and the newer vehicle (2003 troopy) is yet to show anything yet and its done about 50plus trips.

If you get one Dont fall for the cheapys (there is one for about 150dollars) considering my father paid almost 600 (i think) for his, I dont think the cheapy could compare......

My undertsanding would be if you cut out all the rust and placed new metal and seal it all properly it would be just like a new area so it should stand up to the test of time.

hey i am a panle beater well half a panel beater apprentus so i get all the shit rust lol if u cut out your rusty spot anf weld in a nice pice off panle steel then putt a lght coat off bog over it u will not see it for many years unless u have water siting in one spot or sand etc its worth welding the plates in and its not all that hard a good job will out last the car
