Airtec Snorkel Heads
Hello,
Im chasing a snorkel head similar to this style from Airtec with a 4" outlet. The idea is to make stainless snorkels with these heads on them.
Any idea if they are made? and in left and right? Who do I speak to?

I didnt even think of that. And you have convinced me. Only thing I dont like about the safari type and making your own s/s snorkel with rubber bends is if the windscreen isnt 45* then the ram head doesnt sit level. How have people overcome this?

Well flow is going to be an issue down the track. And I was looking at using rubber bends for all the joints. Not a one piece pipe. So a 45* bend ontop of the A pillar pipe wont sit the ram head level.TWISTY wrote:My old zook just had a mitred joint on the end to make the head sit level. well Im back to looking for the airtec style head. Got a 4" donaldson (safari look a like) and its HUGE. With a 45* bend under it there will be nearly no pipe running up the pillar. Will look stupid. Will run a 45* bend backwards at the top of the roof if i cant find a 4" airtec style ram. Any more help appreciated.
Also, there was a thread if im not mistaken about whether to run air intakes forward or backwards, with good arguements for each. I cant seem to find it, or was a dreaming? Donaldson say they must run forward. But a lot of high HP comp trucks run them backwards (i know to limit dirt ingress) so it cant be that bad can it?

that thread was an interesting read. All i'll say on it is, It's up to the individual to decide if mud thrown up from the tires is going to be a problem. Turning the head around in dust will not help, You would be driving through a cloud of dust, there is no magic dust free spot behind the head.vanbox wrote:

people can search for the other thread to work out if they think turning the head around in rain is a good idea. But there are enough people running no snorkle head at all to make it a moot point anyway.

bought that exact one. But with s/s pipe and rubber bends, when i put a rubber 45 bend on top of the pipe, then the ram head, there is next to no pipe running up the pillar in order to keep the ram head below the roof line. looked stupid. No offence, but I reckon you are kidding yourself if you think a mitre like this is going to have any significant impact on airflow in a 4" pipe, the bend/change of direction in the snorkel head itself will have more effect., if you are worried about the mitre, get a mandrel bend or a doughnut and cut a section to suit the angle and weld it to the pipe, that way you can say you have a nice smooth curve in therevanbox wrote:Well flow is going to be an issue down the track.
