GU shortie

Post by mabsydney »

Do they still make these? anywhere?

A mate told me you can buy a new GU shortie in Dubai, but I don't see them listed on the Nissan website...

Would consider importing one if that is the case...

thanks,

Martin

They'd be pretty good. Strong front end, nimble because of the size, and plenty of grunt. I'd buy one. But still cut the back off to make a ute..... gota have a ute.

mmm....thanks for the info guys

Big red, good point about left hand drive, hadn't thought of that!

Will dig some more, I only need seating for 4 people and the shortie would have enough storage for me with a roof rack on.

Also check Japan and UK markets, UK certainly used to have them, I assume Japan does.

To get around Aus import laws. Import shell from Japan and then running gear with chopped up chassis. Then do the swap onto an Aus SWB and get enginered for body swap. Rego will be 88 - 1994 but still

How about just importing GU shortie chassis and running gear + motor and slaming GQ shortie shell on it best of both

The GU SWB's over here are used Jap import's.
I have only seen a couple and they were both 2.8 diesels.
They come with lower diff ratios but I heard a rumour that the diffs are smaller with the baby engine.

There's a couple of GU shortys running around in sydney as Nissan Safari's or what ever they are called running 3L td.

You can bring them in via NZ, but they need a few little tweaks.

NZ doesn't have any car manufacturers, so there is no one to protect from the influx of cheap cars.

So the theory goes.

Nissan Aus don't get squat out of an imported gu shorty.

If they let everybody import cheap cars, who would buy all the crappy new ones?
Then, who would employ the people who work there?

When I was in the import business, these was the reasons I was given.

cheers.
