gq tail lights

Hi guys,

Do the earlier tail lights (88-93 i think) with all three lights in the one unit fit in place of the later model ones with just the two lights?

I assume the fitting would be the same with the bodies being the same.

But i notice that alot of guys who make a custom rear bar fit led lights to that instead of just swapping to the earlier lights.

Is it a legal issue to change to the older style?

id just put the earlier model lights in and run the wires up to them, neatest way imo

Yes they fit, but you have to run the wires up to them if you want both to operate at the same time. It was changed due to an ADR requirement because of the placement of the spare tyre which restricted the line of site of the rear lights. Later GQ's also came with a high mount brake light.

Some leave the original late model dummy tail lights in and run a globe to it but as there is no reflective material inside the light housing and the plastic is a darker red it does not really make an effective mod. The tri colour are more effective. (original turn and brake lights in the bumpers should be retained)

Overall it won't probably comply with the ADR if you change the lights to tri colour but it isn't a hanging offence ( unless you are unlucky to be pulled over by an officer whose wife has just left him for a circus midget with red hair, who found out his 10 children need urgent braces, his 20 year old dog died , and the banks are foreclosing on his humble abode, then you might have a problem)...but that is unlikely.

i have been told that if your patrol came out with the dummy lights in the body that if you go back to tri colour setup and remove the bumperette lights that they can defect you

HOWEVER.

how is a cop going to know its a series II GQ, there are so many series 1's around that it can easily pass for series 1.
