125 Kw into a sierra ???
125 Kw into a sierra ???
The opportunity to do a simple 125kw bolt in engine upgrade to a sierra, from the current 60 odd this vehicle currently has.
the origional aim was just to swap to efi, but this option has come available.
would it handle it?
Basically I can see definite need for a roctoy ring. it would be std sierra from the transfer back.
would it simply start snapping cvs etc? or would the drive line handle it?

Ouch thats about 160 odd HP . Given a 1.6 vitara is around 100 HP that is a big jump . Would it handle it , that would all depend on how you drive it and where you wheel it . You would have the ability to snap axles or cv's at will ( and maybe two at a time ) , but if you drive it right and know when to shoe it , it could be ok .
I have just put a J18 into a 413 and they are ment to run at 135 HP I think . So even if it only chucks out 120 now it was still more than enough and we did not break anything last weekend in its first trial here in NZ . It is running an auto thou , these are ment to be easier on the drive line , I have been told . Like you we are stock from t/case back but only running 31 inch tyres too .
Whats the engine ? Give it a go , if its bolt in it can always be unbolted .

appropriate power is cool but excessive power isn't and in a Sierra it is pointless. You don't gain anything other than maybe a few shits and giggles at the traffic lights.
Many years ago I looked at buying a Supra engined Sierra with a fark off big turbo on it. The guy who had used to tow a 32' boat with it. It had so much power it was terrifying. And he had a pile of cvs and axles in his shed to change the regulalrly broken stuff. It was fun taking off from his house then it all was just a scary ride

I'll let you know in a month or two or three when i get my 20v 4age (120kw/160hp) running in my zook. It's running a 3spd auto so should be a little easier than manual on the driveline. running Double Tough front CVs/Shafts and standard rear but have spread driveline load with 4.57 yukon diff gears an 4.9 transfer gears.

Im running a turbo gti set up in a 91 WT. Its lays 100kW on the wheels and the rest is stock on 30's. It is pretty funny to drag off stock commodores and 5lt's and stuff but like the guys say really pointless. Majority of the time i baby it though and Ive been lucky with the drive train, besides shearing the stock clutch in half in the first 500m, lol. I have found it to be awesome on the road compared to the old donk and in the sand it rocks for torque but it is easy to just roost everyone with little gain. I know you're prob not looking at an engine that pulls out to 8000rpm like mine but in any case I think gearing is your best friend.

.. and post up the vids of it droppin skids!
The current plans for this car - not mine, my house mates. is efi of some sort, 31's, gearing and rear locker. that will give you an idea of driveline stress points.
The engine would be a jap spec silver top version of the 4age (probably has some different letter involved somewhere).
probably similar output to the supercharged one Drew mentions. that was another thought.
I currently has a 4a - much the same block etc but carbie.

because it zook already had a 4a motor in it, so it would be easier to keep it 4a series based, and really vit motor has nothing on a 4age. Suzuki motors are pretty lame when it comes to power/smoothness and upgrading.

Thats the ticket - already engineered for a rolla 1.6, has celica 5sp etc in place.Spike_Sierra wrote:because it zook already had a 4a motor in it, so it would be easier to keep it 4a series based, and really vit motor has nothing on a 4age. and power up options for the 4a series motors are never ending. which is basically what this thread is about... how much power is worth having.
Several people with this kind of power have said its kind of useless except for the odd licence risking moment of fun every once in a while.

All the gear, No idea...
gear it low so you can keep it working at the top end where all the power is. Jump onto toymods and get into the dyno area and look at the torque/power curves for the 4age 20 valves and the 4agze's, and you'll see they make all their power up high....
A really fun engine to drive, check out the youtube video of the blue lwb with the 4agze, it flies.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cd4eIYWQOQ4

another thought was the 4afe, built more for torque and efficiency, might be a better suited option for the intended use... then bolt a sc on it
