gday fellas, as the title suggests, i have a 89 model hj75, and the manual is looking like it needs a rebuild (minimum the transfer requires seals) its the h55f box(i think thats the code)
so what would be the best plan of attack?
1. drop out my box, figure out what bits need replacing and order them, re seal, re bearing and put back together with a new clutch?
2. source a secondhand box, pull that apart, figure out what it needs, re seal and re bearing and put that in with a new clutch?
i think option 1 would require my car to be off the road for too long, and there fore not be an option really, so maybe option 2 with putting new seals on my transfer so that it stops leaking for the moment. with a thicker oil and constant cheacking???
what would be the costing of both options??? i know i can buy a second hand box that has been inspected, and had the bearings changed from a wrecker for 1500. and i know last time it cost me 2500 to have it rebuilt be a professional.
i wouldnt expect to pay much for a second handie that is stuffed??
also any one know a better manual that just swaps straight in, 80 series, gq???
thanks for the help guys
Alistair
