Hello peoples,
I've been thinking of possibly starting another sierra build as a long term project. I've got some ideas in your head and would like to hear your opinions on what you think will be good or bad and why/why not. My plans are as follows.
*NT 1.3 SWB chassis
*Soft top tub ute chopped (with a focus on COG not load carrying)
*SPUA
*Custom shackle reversal in the front and custom leaves and rear shackle mounts moved, diff moved forward a 2-3inches, NT spacing.
*Custom length rear leaves probably requiring a chassis extension and diff moved back about 6 inches NT spacing.
*Laminated and shaved WT zook diffs with chromo axles front and rear.
*Custom shock mounts and boss adjustable shocks.
*As much guard chop as I can get while still actually retaining inner guards and still being able to fit a flare to cover the tyres.
*34X10.5X15" swampers on 15X8 speedy rims with -24mm offset.
*Custom drive shafts
*Air lockers front and rear
*Trail gear 6.5:1 transfer gears
*Mighty kong (or that other new one that I saw on here a while ago, looked great can't find it on a search) with beefed up chassis brackets
*Custom front bar
*Cut sills with incorporated sliders
*GTi motor
So what do you think? Anything you'd do differently and why?

all sounds good except for the ute cut, adds no performance at all. COG will be better with the existing bodywork rather than an ugly ute cut.
Also leave out the shackle reversal

Ransom note = demand + collage
Maybe look at
LWB chassis
if you have to cut the cab do it into extra cab style (ala critta)
maybe G16B instead of gti to gain some more torque at lower rpms.
What tray? Simple flat with comp style rungs? or do a bolted on sidestyle style of things like the US prerunners etc.

Re: Thinking of starting over, your thoughts.
you will get more benefits from a well designed system that uses shackles in the traditional spot, and you won't need a long slip-joint.GRPABT1 wrote: *Custom shackle reversal in the front and custom leaves and rear shackle mounts moved, diff moved forward a 2-3inches, NT spacing.
if you get a good spring rate for the vehicle weight you may not need adjustable shocks.GRPABT1 wrote: *Custom shock mounts and boss adjustable shocks.
if by chance you can use stockers with spacers up to 60mm than that might be the go as then you only need to purchase standard ones if something goes wrong, but will depend on where you're components sit.GRPABT1 wrote: *Custom drive shafts
leave it in the gti, there are so many nice zook motors, from the 1.6 to the 2.0 litre to the m series engines.GRPABT1 wrote: *GTi motor
just my thoughts.

its your project, build exactly what you want! sounds good!
but heres bit of input (what i would do!)
Leave the arse on. Put that bodywork effort into big wheel arches.
fark all the custom leaves... Coil it with as much WB ext as body will allow. New front crossmember & chassis ext to also accept winch & power steer. Cut guards to suit. Modify tunnel to fit raised transfer with bracing.
Minimalistic front & rear barwork. Cage!

The ute chop I have my reasons for, they are bascially clearance and durablity ie: less panels to damage.
The GTi engine I chose because I know them pretty well know and have the knowlege/ability to work with them. I would like an M series or J20 though but I'm not sure what's invoved and don't want to get too focused on the motor on a car built to go slow, I have a 500+hp V8 for that.
