GU patrol wagon

Post by mellows40 »

Hi guys,

I want to know if anyone has any idea where I can get a 4.2ltr diesel wagon I know this is the tech section and have posted in the wanted section as well. There are alot of 3ltr turbo diesels around but I cant seen to find a 4.2.. I'm looking at upgrading my daily driver from a fj40 to some comfort, modern conveniences like power steering, disc brakes.... and windows. lol My 40 is soft topped. any help would be greatly appreciated
Mine: A Tough little fj40
and a 105 series diesel

We are put on this earth for one thing, and one thing only, to die. What you do in the mean time is entirely up to you!

Thanks guys... I know I'm being pretty specific here but I'm after a late model 2004 / 2005 GU wagon 4.2 diesel auto with all the bells and factory whistles.
I'm going to use it to tow my modified 40 series to and from hardcore 4x4ing. so I can have some comfort as my daily driver and not have to worry about stuffing up and then not getting to work cause of a breakdown. I will finaly be able to go nuts...
I know I'm being fussy but for 15 years I've had to make do with this 40 as a daily driver and mild off roader... Thats not good enough any more and as my kids are finaly finishing school I will have the budget to get something nice to drive, look at, and have some comfort. as you can plainly see boy do I need to upgrade! So then I can build up the 40 into somthing that will be alot of fun to play with purely off road...

Why you want the 4.2??? Its a old dinosaur, apparently the 3.0L is more reliable and they are regularly $10-$15k cheaper

Bj on roids...
I have heard from many people that the 3.0ltr turbo diesel's engine isn't reliable... "a handgrenade" one guy put it.. thats why I'm looking for the 4.2...

And I have heard they do exsist but they are a full import......

Grimbo.... p/m me with some details and fotos mate...

scanas.... yep 15 years and the only time it has let me down was 12 years ago when the gearsbox and transfer case decided to part company. Very ugly.. a hole the size of my head in the cases... the gasket between the two broke and all the fluid drained into the gearbox leaving the transferbox dry.... it siezed, blew up and was left hanging from the gear levers... .
But even then it was my own fault for not changing my gear oils regular enough... a very expensive lesson at the time... other than that and regular maintenance... she has NEVER missed a beat.... even when she was running bad... she always got me home :D

I Love my 40 and will probably have it till I pass away....... In one form or another

If you look on carsales and carpoint (and any other of the "usual" car sales sites - you will find a few.

As far as the auto goes, the only option i can see here is to buy an auto out of an imported GQ or GU and use that. I know Andy at dieseltec has an auto in his SWB - he might know of a replacement/spare floating around...?
