Pull out the high tension lead from the coil...check for crap build up in the coil connection point. I have found a build up of muck in there which affected the performance of the spark from the coil to the distributor.

dizzy cap off and clean for water/crap

flip dizzy cap upside down, and check the dizzy cap contacts (6 of them) and the rotor button, and make sure they are clean, and making a good contact.

check points gap?

Check spark on coil lead, and then spark plug leads

Check fuel line, and make sure the pic up in not blocked

make sure there is fuel getting into the carby

Get some Aero start and spray into the air intake and see if it will go.

when you get water into the cylinder's and the water, which is not combustible, locks the motor, and wont turn over.

Has the car got an imoberliser/kill switch on it?

it should spark a fair bit. check all the solnoids if they are clicking to your fuel pump try a test light on your coil positive side you should be able to have power there while the key is on. does it smell like fuel after you have been cranking it over?
