4.3 dfff gears. where to get them, who runs them???
4.3 dfff gears. where to get them, who runs them???
not sure on the exact ratio number 4.3... but somewhere close there.
where is the best place to get some? If hobzee or his crew reads this do they sell them. I will call up monday but any info now is good.
does anyone have any reccommendations on what to look out for? do you find them to be good ratio?
im running td42 Turbo with 35's. soon to be lockers so want to sort centres at same time.

I have found that 4.3s (4.375 actually) have brought my ratios back to standard and the speedo 100% spot on with my GU TD42 with aftermarket turbo on 35s.
I reckon they're a great ratio and relatively cheap to get.

2001 GU Patrol DX wagon, TD42, Air Lockers, twin spare carrier, Barrett HF, 35" Treps, high pinion rear, Staun beadlocks, 60l Engel and more!
Just in case you didn't know where to find them, they are used from factory in the ZD30 Patrols.
All 2.8litre Patrols (GU and GQ) have 4.6s from factory.
EDIT: I think RB30 (petrol) GQs also have 4.3s fitted.

yeh i reaslise that. i have driven them before and find them a little short and revvy at highway speed.waandy wrote:why not do 4.6? more suited to 35s
i like the fact that with 4.11's the engine rpm's are nice and low at highway speed (2050ish rpm) but it does tend to labour on really big climbs and pulls full boost for long periods...
so i was thinking go in between with 4.3's??
as far as fuel economy goes... am i better off sitting at 2050 rpm or 2600 (which from memory i think 4.6's are)??
cheers
well on 35's 4.6's bring back the std ratios i belive and shud sit about 2400...rumpig89 wrote:yeh i reaslise that. i have driven them before and find them a little short and revvy at highway speed.waandy wrote:why not do 4.6? more suited to 35s

i myself thought it was always better to sit at lower rpms so i tested it on the long weekend.. i got 12.5lphugy corrected by gps doing 100 then 11.2lp hungy sitting at 110 - 115..
i wonder what the difference would be 5th gear vs 4th gear at 100 for both.macneil wrote:well on 35's 4.6's bring back the std ratios i belive and shud sit about 2400...rumpig89 wrote:yeh i reaslise that. i have driven them before and find them a little short and revvy at highway speed.waandy wrote:why not do 4.6? more suited to 35s

1.2km's at 100. (so speedo says 100 - gps says 101.2??) is that in a td42?? ie originally 4.11 gears?pigletracing wrote:Ive got 4.3s in my GQ with 35s, going by the gps the speedo is only out by 1.2 klms...

Went from 4.6's to 4.3's in my wagon its way better to drive. far more relaxed on the open road and also sets more in torque curve of the motor not at the end of itozy1 wrote:ive run4.6s in my old turbo diesel gq wagon, and it was running high inthe rev range, when i bought my gu, i swapped to 4.3's it was the best thing i i ever did,

when i put the 4.6's on my GQ wagon originally, it was Naturally Aspirated, on 35's, it drove well, and made up for the extra weight, when i fitted the turbo, it had a heap of power, and i realised the 4.6's were too much but couldnt justify stripping centres out,money_killer wrote:hmm having second thoughts in putting the 4.6's in now. thinking 4.6's with 33 (when daily driven) would be reving way tooo much on the high way ...
i have also run 4.6's and 33 while N/A, and while power off the line was great on the highway it was crap, revving higher, so it wasnt great
i ran 4.6's and 33's with the turbo, and had to be real careful on the loud pedal if there was any sign moisture onthe road,
id go 4.3's and no more personally, but each to their own, i learn the had way as did Charles (turbo GU)
cheers for that .ozy1 wrote:when i put the 4.6's on my GQ wagon originally, it was Naturally Aspirated, on 35's, it drove well, and made up for the extra weight, when i fitted the turbo, it had a heap of power, and i realised the 4.6's were too much but couldnt justify stripping centres out,money_killer wrote:hmm having second thoughts in putting the 4.6's in now. thinking 4.6's with 33 (when daily driven) would be reving way tooo much on the high way ...
