Newbie with a quandry?
Newbie with a quandry?
Hey guys - you are always helpful on this site so Ihope you can be again - I am going to buy a GQ Patrol very soon and I am unsure which way to go - does anyone have any opinions on Gas vs diesel? And 2.8turbo vs 4.2 diesel aspirated? And the 3.0lt engine - I just don't know which way to go - we will need it for a fraser island trip and som emild towing and bush work - No comp stuff and no really heavy work. Any ideas?/
Thanks dave,,
Thanks dave,,
Ok well here a my input
4.2L Petrol/Gas a quite good, cheaper to run than just running petrol, and tuned right they can get some pretty good economy and power. Problem is the 4.2L petty has a history of cracking heads, gas or not they do it.
the Diesel side of things there is only 1 diesel to get, and thats the 4.2L, turbo is better but an NA one you can put a turbo on without much effort.
the 2.8L Turbo is extremly gutless and they are know for doing Injector pumps, their glow plug system are extremly problematic, and in all honesty only good for an anchor.
the 3L Turbo motor isn't even good for an anchor, their nickname is the Grenade, you buy one, pull the pin and wait for it to explode. There are hundreds of people who has had their 3L motor grenade on them, they are too small a motor with too much boost trying to push too heavy a car, stay away from them unless you can afford $12-15K to replace the motor when it explodes anywhere from 30,000k's to 120,000K's

There is an absolute s**tload of information already here if you look. Nothing much will have changed.....

i think you will find the 3L he is talking about is the rb30, which is awsome when turbod but fairly gutless when unturboed, the 2.8 is ok, but again too small for a heavy car, stick to the big 6's if they are looked after well, then they will run day after day, i have a turbo tb4.2 and its just getting up to 400,000k's and has never missed a beat oh and it runs anywhere in between 8 and 12psi dailyMyGQ wrote:Ok well here a my input

He may have joined 3 years ago and not done much due to any number of different reasons. Its a forum where people ask questions and he has. You could have typed an answer in the amount of time it took you to type what you did. Unless, that is you didn't know but still felt the urge to let him know what you thought about the fact that he didn't use search.
So many people say to use the search function but unless you know how to use it effectively then its useless and faster to ask a question. Maybe seeing as so many people say use search, then someone should actually start a post on the most effective way to use search and then it may be a better option.
BTW, you don't like people asking common questions, I don't like the people who get on their soap box and whinge about not using search. You search what he is asking, get everyones point of view from the posts that come up in search, and do it in under 10mins. I am guessing it took him 2mins to write the question. At the end of the day by asking a common question every now and then may get newer people with different views on the forum, not just old posts from the archives. You don't have to read it/comment if you don't seem to care about it.
Mods can move this, delete it or do what they like with this, but I am having a whinge about people that seem to have similar views to yourself. Yes I am a fan of posting questions prior to search. Recently I have had two that have not been answered at all. Now I will go look at search and trawl through the shit 10 page posts that have one post with the word in it I am searching for.
I have no idea of an answer for this guy, but I enjoy reading and learning thats why I was reading this post. You just pissed me off and were the straw that broke the camels back.

All in all, he only had to scroll down the posts in the Nissan section to answer his questions, 10-15 mins work for the first 100 pages or so, if it was the fact that the search function was not giving him the results that he was after.tritontray wrote:He may have joined 3 years ago and not done much due to any number of different reasons. What annoys a lot of people here are questions being asked when there has been no effort by the poster in finding out the results themselves, with the blind expectation that other people will supply them with all the answers they need. This is a blatent disregard and disrespect of other peoples time.
FWIW it took me about three mins to find most of the answers to his questions using the search function, simply by listing keywords and restricting the search to Nissan section, so please don't try the "It doesn't work" bit, because it does.

steady guys
I didnt realise we were all so sensative. I did a search and was bombarded with argumentative posts from guys about using the search feature. I have been a member for long enough to know to use the search . I was hoping for a short few comments from you knowledgleable blokes to steer me the right way having never owned a nissan patrol. I just wanted some fresh iseas since alot has happened to these cars since 2005 when most of these posts were made.
Thanks again Dave,
Thanks again Dave,
i couldnt agree with you more mate. sum blokes dont have the time of day for anyone but as soon as it comes to something they know absolutley nothing about they bombard people with a million questions.
Weve all been new to everything at one point in our lives, so take some time out of your day and help out those who, may not be them directly, will help you out with something, be it 4x4 or anything else. we all have to start somewhere

The search function in this forum is useless, when you type in dump AND pipe and get more info on rims and tyres there is something wrong. It is FAR EASIER to use google to search for your info, type in what your after followed by outerlimits4x4 and it usually brings up what your after.
Yes ppl are overly sensitive on this forum but i do understand its just stupid posting a question when its answered further down the page.
To answer the OP question, it really depends on what you like as everyone has a different opinon. Ie, some ppl like the hole gas thing and would recomend the petty, where as some ppl would rather burn in hell then you LPG. Some ppl like having big balls under there bonnet and would never have anything other then a 4.2 turbo diesel, and some ppl dont mind putting round and cruising outback and love the extra economy the 2.8 gives. What kind of person are you?
