80 series body on GQ chassis
Hey guys,
Ok I am building a new truck.
I have an 80 series wagon body, and a have access to a GQ wagon chassis. Any idea what would be involved in getting the 2 to match up, and would I have many probs getting it registered in QLD.
I was planing on running GU diffs under this truck anyway, so if I use the patrol chassis it would be much easier.

im looking at an 80 series chassis under a hilux atm. the chassis are nearly the same dimensions in terms of body mount placements etc. the only difference is the body mount/ frame rail height.
i also looked at a GQ chassis.... lets just say all i did was take a look at the stingray mounts, the chassis width and i quickly changed my mind back to 80 series.
To convert GUs under an 80 series is pretty simple in terms of fab, will just take some time with things like panhards etc as the mounting heights are different 80s to GQ/U. ALTHOUGH, festa ran a gu under his 80 using nissan pin mounts grafted to the 80 radius arm mounts... i believe johnny trackabout did this too with his front GU in his 79 series.

turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
Yes he did and he also ran GU diffs front and rear on a dual cab 80 which is now in my hands
A panel beating friend of mine hated nissans in general in his work shop for repair because of there weak/thin chassis design.. Always had to be careful not to tear them when they werer being straightened.
He said the Toyota chassis in design and strength overall for his business was far superior.
